Just wanted to know how many of us "newbies" there are in the OWFW and when each of your OW's are going to be done. As everyone knows I'm keen on this whole diving thing. Met alot of new friends and can't wait to meet more. And now the big question. For our grad when we get our OW cert. What do you want:
White, red, bubbly or beer.
Steak, burgers, chicken or veggie
Sit down or fall down
Best of luck to all my newby buds. Hope we all make it to the other side. The dark, cold wet side that is!!!!! :out:
Oh and that's right boys, she's posting again :out: :out: :out:

Not that anyone's counting. I passed the written exam yesterday after 5 class/pool sessions, and I do my checkout dives in Tobermory on May 23/24/25.

Congratulations.
What do you mean no one is counting. I am now. So what are your preferenced for the celebration dinner? We'll get some of these "old timers" to come out and show us some of the good spots to dive and get to know a bunch of new friends. BBQ. Let the count down commence. :)

Who you calling the "old timers"?
Not that I'm trying to say forget this idea (I think it's great)... why not we combine the 26th with a Welcome to the world of diving for you newbies?
I'm sure the gang up here around the Brockville area can find a TON of spots for newbies to enjoy!

I would never put the senior OFWF members down like that. Well Maybe CD but none of the others. LMAO. I just thought it would be fun to get the newbies together for a get to know you thing.
And watch what you wish for my friend. I know where you live!!!! ;)

You got a point with CD... "just kidding".
Getting together with newbies is an excellent idea... but as you've seen how hard it is to get anyone together... just was offering to have an excuse for one heck of party for diving.
A general celebration of meeting new friends, some of whom just happen to be new divers.
(heck, if the t-shirt thing happens quick enough, maybe the "old timers" will grace the "newbies" with one.... just a thought)

I think I'm past the newbie stage, but my wife might still fall in there. Our 14YO had his first pool session yesterday eve. Instructor says he did really well. Comfortable in the water, had a little trouble mask clearing (who didn't the first time), but quickly caught on. His only problem is lack of body fat (got cold, to bring his shortly next class) and no hips/butt to hold his weight belt up (now he wants a weight integrated BC ;) ). If there are no hitches or delays (missed classes) he might be able to do his OW May 31/June 1. If not then 2 wweks later June14/15.

I'm still a newbie. Cert. late last July in Edmonton and didn't get much diving in after that. What's the plan / date?
Additional newbie thought - any plans for a charter at the OFWF get together that isn't quite as deep as the Munson?

My puddle is bigger than your puddle, nyahh! :D
(Deeper too, not that I can take advantage of that).
Glad there's some other options available for us newbies.

From what I can tell, it looks like we are all in a state of "Newbiness", if that is a real word. Either it is Nitrox or tri-mix or something else that you are new at. So CD you are probably right about just combining it with the dinner.

dare I say... we combine a "newbie" celebration with the BBQ or just another dinner?

Do we grace another restaurant with our appearance? Maybe a BBQ would be more layed back and fewer distractions.

My wife and I are nebies - sort of. We have been certified since last June - but we have already dove in Cozumel, Aruba, Turks and Cicos, West Palm beach, Key Largo and Key West. We have taken to this new hobby with full vigor and are now AOW cert'd. Hoping to do Micronesia at the end of the year. Only place we haven't dove yet is Ontario!

Hey Guys,
My boyfriend and I are newbies as well. I think we will be OW certified come the beginning of June.
What dinner is everyone talking about?? When and where will it be. I definately think we need a newbie celebration so that we feel like we fit in. All this new lingo and these experienced (aka old) divers seem to intimidate us just a little bit.
Hey other Newbies, what kind of gear have you bought allready?
just wondering

Dinner-open to all who want to come and meet us for the first time......OPen for all those that have the courage to return after our dinner in Kingston ;)
When and where is still up in the air and when it is decided it will be posted for all to agree on.
We are trying to set up BBQ and dive weekend <?> the 26th of July in Brockville, somwhere. Of course you are invited....Your boyfriend of course will be charged a minimal fee :D (not really).
The gear selection is varied and personal. What I like someone else might not....and of course depending on how deep your pockets are.
If I may be bold enough to state that the typ[ical new diver never spends enough on gear to start and ends up rebuying soon after. Try before you buy if you can.
Typical setup is a jacket style BC/weight belt/7 mil Farmer john (Jane) and jacket, booties, gloves, hood/run of the mill fins/usually lower end regs and guages.
I would suggest purchasing a good set of regs and guages..(see the reg forum on the board). Regs are your lifeline and you want ones that are hearty for cold(er) water.
Lok forward to meeting you both and don't be afraid to ask any questions.
