A little intelligence info for your trip: flew SFO -> Bali on Singapore Airlines economy.

In SFO, they weighed everything including carry-ons. They adhered to limits though we were a still a bit over on the carryons but showed we could take nothing out. Could have been triggered by wife's larger roller backpack. We had to rearrange gear and throw some in checked luggage. Of course, there was plenty of room in overheads.

In Seoul, we had to get out and go through security again though no problems. Don't video in the security line as they were all over a little girl with a video camera out. Not sure it ended well as she was recording to DVD.

Same thing in Hong Kong on way back.

Trip back to SFO from Bali, we added a third bag. Charges stated was $109 for third bag, or flat 3X that rate for any weight overage. In other words, $330 flat fee if we were over 23kg on any bag. $109 was easy. Once we stated up front that we had a third bag on check-in, they didn't seem to even care about any overages or they just totaled all the weight together and divided to check 23kg limits.

That 12 hour flight is a killer though you do have video on demand. Definitely the best airline to do it on, though the water was terrible coming back, after being problem free on way out. Seemed to pick it up in Singapore as it was terrible from then on. Horrible after-taste that staff couldn't discern. I think others noticed too. Singapore has pillows and blankets galore so don't bother bringing them. Food was pretty good to OK, and wine was included.

Pretty full both ways, SIN -> SFO completely full. Sleep...that would have been an excellent addition to that flight.

And since we went through Seoul, through the mountains and frozen ice of Alaska and the frozen wastelands of Siberia. :)

Hopefully the frozen wastelands of Siberia before the frozen ice of Alaska....and then on dwn the coast past Yreka, Shasta, Redding, Red Bluff, and my favorite Los Molinos alongside the Sacramento....WOW! If not in Indo then there. Cheers
