Air Fills at Home

Question:

Without having to get into the expense of a compressor, is there a way I could assemble a at home air fill station using just cascade bottles? I'd be filling AL80's with 21%.

What would I need and approximate cost vs a small compresor?

To get effective use of the air supply (of course you would have to work out filling the storage bank / transporting them to a compressor) you will need some type of gas transfer pump (Haskel http://www.durameter.com/ makes the industry standard) to allow you to reach operating pressure in the cylinders after the bank pressure is below the tank operating pressure.

The gas transfer pump operates on low pressure air, basically a one piston compressor using a pnuematic motor instead of an electric or gas engine.


These pumps are pretty expensive also and with the trouble of transporting the bank cylinders back and forth to your fill location...

You would certainly benifit from having a bank though, it allows you to use a small capacity compressor to fill the bank and then individual cylinders can be filled quickly...
