Hi All

I've had my Cobra for a few years now, with no complaints. Today, I decided to get Nitrox certified, and assumed my Cobra would have dual-air capabilities. Sure enough, when I went onto Suunto's website and browsed the Cobra manual, there is a way to change it to Nitrox. HOWEVER, I've tried and tried and tried with no luck.
When I go to ...
MODE - 3 SET - 1 SETDIVE
i'm supposed to get 4 options to choose from (ADJMODE, ALARM, MAXDEPTH, NITROX).
The NITROX setting doesn't appear.

Any clues?
All help appreciated!!

Thanks,
Dave

You have to change the gas model first. I don't remember off hand how to get there, I think it is in SET PREFERENCES. But anyway, get there, change the gas model from air to nitrox. Once you do that, then you can use SET DIVE to assign the Nitrox percentage for that particular dive.

Caveat: I'm not nitrox trained so this is based on my reading of the Cobra manual, not personal experience.

There are three "models" for the Cobra: Air, Nitrox, and Guage.
This is selected in the Preferences menu, see section 4.3.3 page 52, and specifically section 4.3.3.3.

If you read the start of section 4.3.1 which describes the MODE - 3 SET - 1 SETDIVE sequence you referenced, you see that the behavior depends on the 'mode', which from reading is the same thing as the 'model' of 4.3.3.3. I guess the translation from Finnish isn't perfect. :cool2:

To recap: Start by setting your model preference to "Nitrox". After that I think it will work as you expect.

Print this and keep it handy. I actually printed it as a 4" x 6" picture and keep it in my log book. It is durable and always available.

Also, if you do not have this or it does not print well, I can email you the large size scanned copy. I reduced it a great deal to post it here.

You can also follow this link to the PDF file (http://media.suunto.com/media/suunto/manuals/en_US/cobra_manual_en_v3_m56577569830658693.pdf.) on the Suunto site OR follow this link and click on the appropriate language (http://www.suunto.com/suunto/Worlds/diving/main/world_article_normal.jsp?CONTENT%3C%3Ecnt_id=10134 198673972628&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302756033&bmUID=1232975314682) for the manual that you want. The page you want is around 75.
