I keep about 1/2# in the front of my Mako in fresh water. How much weight should I add for salt?

I keep around a pound in the nose of mine. It needs something buoyant at the rear still. I am going to try gluing less compressible wetsuit material to the shroud. Maybe then it will trim out right and can be ever so slightly positive instead of negative. No one ever seems to respond to a thread with "Mako" in it.

The left handle of mine got removed last weekend. Hopefully now when clipped off it no longer grabs the kelp. It was actually quite a project to build a suitable rope mount, out of stainless, in the handles original position.

Tying them all together.

I suppose I'm one of the folks guilty of not responding to threads with "Mako" in the title....

I'd do this:

  • Adjust weights until neutral in fresh water
  • Place on scale
  • Multiply by 1.02564
  • This gives a weight that is neutral in salt water

...it's what I do with X's and Gavins, anyway...

All the best, James
