An invitation to all OFWF or honorary OFWF members to attend our Scuba Diving and BBQ Party in Brockville on July 26th.

Things are rolling along quite well and we have a fun filled day planned with charters in the morning, shore diving in the morning and afternoon and finally a BBQ at 'Buds on the Bay' followed by cocktails and dancing.

So far the following OFWF members have committed to coming to the event:

Taz22 ( Host )
Diving Gal ( Co - Host & Logistical Support ) & Special Guest
Canuckdiver
FreeFloat
Boogie711
Butch103
Colbaltbabe
Ontario Diver

An impressive list so far! Come on fellow OFWF's members, step on up and 'pm' me to let me know you want to dive in Brockville.

Camping and hotel/motel/B & B accomodation can be arranged, I'll provide info to you if you advise your individual needs.

I'd really like to attend, but unsure about the timing. With 2 teenagers, a sailboat and my wife looking for a new job (she does NOT want to work weekends) and my place of employment being short staffed (we're looking for someone, just not finding the right person) scheduling vacation time and weekend trips is challenging. :( I haven't dove down that way yet and hear good things about it, so will make every effort to attend.

Has it been determined yet if we are bringing the food to be BBQ'ed or are we just going to go someplace and pay for them to look after us. I know you said we are going to Buds on the Bay (I am paying attention) but what is this place. Taz if you could post somemore details I for one would greatly appreciate it since I haven't been to alot of these places. Mucho Thanks, Marie

I was just up diving in Brockville/Rockport on Victoria weekend and had a great experience with all the local establishments I patronized (as well as good diving!):

Dan Humble @ DiveTech in Mallorytown (http://www.divetech.ca);

BottomTimeCharter (http://www.bottomtimecharter.com) ;

Divers Den B&B (Peter @ 613-342-6110)

On return trips to the area, I hope to use their services again!

From the most of the group I'm hearing shore dives. So the plan is:

2 shore dives - morning we can do the Connie or Rothesay

then afternoon - Brockville Scuba Park

then dinner at Buds

then Drink and dancing at Buds

sound ok?

Like, are people planning on camping? If so, where?

Is there a hotel of choice?

Personally, I was just planning on camping, but I don't want to go ahead and make reservations at a campground and find out that everyone else is going to be staying at a different place altogether. That's just no fun!

You're from that area (or at least closer to Belleville than Kitchener is). Go ahead and pick a campsite. We'll make it the official hangout zone for the OFWF BBQ party.

I'm just coming down by myself - me and my pickup. Anyone want to share a site?

(Relax - I have my own tent and sleeping bag - I'm not getting THAT friendly!)

Umm, I'll be camping, too. Don't know if I am arriving solo or not at this point - depends on what Jame has planned.

Works for me... I was planning on coming on my own in my official "OFWF Santioned Red-Neck Scuba-Mobile." It's a 1986 Jeep Pickup truck.

I have room for one more (two if you're cosy and don't mind straddling a gear shifter from Kitchener to Belleville) and the back will fit exactly one (1) crapload of scuba gear. Right now, I only have about 1/3 of a crapload, I think, so there's probably room for more!

Hey MWC! You coming to this party?

I will either be coming through from around the lakes or, if I can swing it, from SW Ontario. As Jame will be off playing in the Deep South, there will be room for at least one and possibly two divers in my car, along with their stuff (i like the collective noun "crapload" for this - think I'll steal it, Boogie :D ) Either way I should be able to transport people from Tronnah.

Which wrecks are you referring too?

As to the Brockville Diver Park. This is a location that us Brockville Folk like to use for OW & AOW courses as it is a nice area for training. Also, it is a place for a nice easy dive for all levels of divers with lots of stuff to see, this includes: a old wrecked barge, Flamingo Corner ( you have to see it to believe it ) lots of guide ropes to help with navigation, a huge weedbed that has tonnes of aquatic life around it etc etc etc. It's also 100ft from a scuba store for air fills and about 500ft from Buds on the Bay a wonderful place to eat that is very very diver friendly!

:)

Taz: I think 'gator meant the wrecks in DG's posting for the party.

Under the "more the merrier" heading that works well for parties (especially given that they'd have a lot less distance to travel than this western Freak will), how about officially extending a welcome to those folks who might want to join us from upstate NY, New England, MI and other points of call below the border. (And above - Kingston's not that far from Montreal!) Fresh water, fresher divers, moose T-shirts and high-test Canadian beer :D

its been over a year since I've had a nice Sleeman's or Moosehead. This Aussie beer sucks. But it does the job when nothing else is available. I look forward to meeting all you people. And the diving sounds spectacular.

Information on the wrecks that are easily accessible from shore that Taz mentioned - Conestoga. and Rothesay can be found here at Save Ontario Shipwrecks (http://www.saveontarioshipwrecks.on.ca/Diverguides/diverguides.html)

Lock 21 is another shore dive that we can do, but the current and conditions are not generally for a novice diver.

Not in the guides from the SOS site are Lock 28 and the Morrisburg drift. Which are two more shore dives.

Most of the other wrecks require boat access (charters)

Please consider this an official invite to all in our border states and provinces that wish to come to Brockville on Saturday July 26th for our scuba party. As noted this party is for all levels of diving, we want to be inclusive of all hence the reason for the dives that have been selected.

I had a sinus infection when we went to Prescott last year, so I got to watch bubbles, worry about Wifey and talk crap with the boat captain - so I haven't dove the Lillie yet. That would be very cool. Wifey liked it, so I don't think that I'll have any problems liking it either. Gonna call Capt. Kevin and Dewar's tomorrow and see what I can arrange. Wifey is going on about doing the Connie when we get there on Friday, but she'll probably get out of the car and take a nap :)

Looking forward to meeting everyone. I'll let you know what I come up with as far as boat diving.

I was just going through my datebook for The Month of July, and realized that I have a wedding to perform at 4:00pm on July 26th, so it doesn't look like I will be able to dive that day....

Oh well... next time

Looking forward to having you here. You never know, if you around on Sunday, I'd consider doing a morning charter on the Gaskin and Lillie with you. I just love the Lillie.

If you need more bodies to fill in, let me know.

I'm waiting to hear back from Abucs. Wifey loves the boat diving there, so we're planning on 2 days of 2 tanks. shore dives in the afternoons. we'll probably do the Rothesay and the Connie when we get there Friday afternoon. Not sure yet if Abucs has room for walk-ons, but I should hear back tomorrow.

Is there an actual sign up to the OFWF's or are you simply a member by residing here and being a dive nut?

Unfortunately, that is in the middle of some summer vacation and my wife and I will I will be in the middle of Georgian Bay on our boat - otherwise we would have come.

There is no actual "sign up and be a member" Like you said, by living here, and diving here, you are one.... a OFWF that is :D

No dues -- execpt you "must" dive here at the very least once a year (but a true freak... the count is waaaaaaaaay more than that) -- and bathtubs don't count, so get out there in the real fresh water!

Ok, Wifey and I are ready to go! We're staying at the Comfie Inn, booked on the afternoon charter Saturday and the morning charter Sunday with Abucs, doing a shore dive when we get there on Friday... So, what time, what location are we getting together for the shore dives Saturday morning? Really, I read through all of the posts, so if I missed it (or I'm being dense), I'm sorry. Also, at what time are we meeting at Bud's (I hope it not Bud's French-Fry Stand, right?? :) ). The OFWF T-Shirts look great! I'll have to put in my order up there for one (I totally missed the T-Shirt thread until this morning). Really looking forward to meeting everyone and diving my butt off.

Any prerequisits for attending?

I am a new diver (OW a couple of weeks ago and 1 dive since), but I figure spending a day with a large group of divers would probably be a good initiation (both in and out of the water).

...typically Helen has some room but just not to be disappointed you might want to firm up with her. Had a club dive this weekend with Helen on the Emily C dive boat. Did Gaskin-Parsons-Muscallonge-Daryaw. Temp. 63-66 oF, current moderate-strong so the keel rides were not as fast as some have experienced before on the Parsons/Daryaw. Viz in the 20-25 ft range. Weather was fantastic and I came back with the same number of divers as I went out with, something DiveMasters are very fond of having happen....

Lynne  ...glad you found it. Use the search command and you will be amazed what you can find here. Or search on a member name to see what they have had to say in the past. Let's keep this part of the cyberworld our little secret, I don't think it has enough bandwidth to handle Rick....(just kidding Rick, honest!).

As Taz pointed out recently, he's started a new thread to capture the details of the occassion.

Please visit New BBQ thread (http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=31195) to add your comments.

PS I still have a few OFWF t-shirts in white (Large & x-Large) if anyone is interested.
