Thanks for all the advice last month on dive resorts in Roatan. I've decided on the Inn of Last Resort and am going there with my mother this sunday for a week. Does anyone have a sense of what an appropriate tip range is for a week - at that resort, or at resorts in Roatan in general?

Many thanks!

Heather

Yes. If you desire to tip, 10-15% of the resort cost is appropriate for satisfactory staff service. Adjust the amount for exceptionally good or poor service.

Ditto for the dive crew based on the diving costs.

As I have detailed elsewhere on the board, be prepared for the no see ums & sea lice.

Do have fun.

Hello Heather, Im not familiar with your resort ,but when I stayed at COCO view last month (all inclusive)the tips were pooled between all the service staff at the hotel(DMs,captains, bartenders, waitstaff, etc) I was well taken care of by my DM and bartenders so I decided to take extra good care of them and then tipped the others by the pooling method. Its strictly voluntary, but Im sure the wages are very low and they rely on that to make ends meet.
I tipped my DM 60.00$(we did 21 dives) and the bartender 40.00 and then threw in 100.00$ for the pool.

The husband & I are heading for CoCo View in 27 short days. First timers at Coco View.
Trying to figure out how much cash to bring and in what denominations. From reading other posts cash seems to be the way to go.
Looking at bar tab, souvenirs, tips, and other miscellaneous expenses.
At what point do you pool the tips?

An unrelated question: How does the check out dive go with Coco View? Is it a shore dive?

Thanks,
Mary

Every time I have been to Roatan the resort let me know what's appropriate to tip. I think around 10% of the cost is probably about right. More or less depending on the level of service you receive.
