Gotta be my dive light because when I'm using it I'm usually doing a night dive. Unless of course I'm looking for something I lost in the garage or else I'm diving in Lake Travis.

Can't say I have a favourite accessory
Each piece of kit I carry underwater is paramount to me returning from each dive, only ever carry what is needed and cut down as much as possible on clutter and kit that serves no useful purpose during the dive.
Having said that my fav piece of kit is my Polar fleece Beanie as winter is well on its way down here. I never get onto a boat without it.

Sticking with the items you posted, I'd say my 21w HID light. I use my dive light all the time.

I love my neon yellow oceanic gloves, they're a perfect fit and I just love them. If I make a hand signal at someone I can be absolutely sure they can see it!
They're not thick but I wore them on my dives here in Ireland and wasn't cold. I find it hard to do anything with thick gloves on.

I just voted for my slate because my aging cerebral matter often forgets just what I went underwater to videotape. Reflecting on that, I really should have said my video camera since it has really changed the way I dive and my appreciation for the "little things" (like tiny zoanthids and hydroids) in life.

...that it's my favourite accessory, but if I could only take one of those items with me, it would be the SMB. I am very fond of the bit at the end of the dive where the people in the boat come and collect me... it's a good way to end the day.

After giving it considerable thought and some reflection I have determined that my favorite gizmo or gadjet has to be the hot tubs on the Ventura dive boats, after perhaps 4 dives in January you cant beat a soak in a hot tub. Now there is a small controversy about the warm water accelerating the possibility of
bubbles in the blood stream but to be honest I never suffered from the tub.

I love my marker bouy. I tie it on to my catch bag and let it go.
After i surface and get back to the boat i get comfortable and
then motor over to get my catch. No dragging it back to the boat.
Works great for the heavy scallops

I think my favorite accessory would have to be my snorkel. There is nothing quite like swimming out, with my face in the water looking at my compass, and moving large volumes of air through a small diameter tube that makes me appreciate diving (vs. snorkeling) more than that little piece of plastic that constantly gets in the way when I reach for my inflator.
Otter
Well maybe its really my UK C4 flashlight I use for looking in little nooks and cranies....but the snorkel has to be a close second :bonk: Thank you Laguna Beach for making it a $50 fine for not having a snorkel

I used to think my favorite gadget was my erasable slate.
we always use that one, but I recently found a underwater laser pointer
that really is cool.
It lets me point out that little thing of interest to my dive buddy, where I used to have to point, and make odd gestures with my hands, in order to get her to understand what I was pointing
at, now all I do is get her attention, (which is sometimes hard to do) and point my light right near what I want to show her. (don't want to blind any critters)
One other item that works great, and as far as I know, has not been improved upon, is a simple caribiner for getting your buddys attention. works great, and never breaks either.

:D My Camera would be my favorite choice only because my wife has not wanted to dive the last few years. I almost always have a knife, mesh bag, safety sausage & light when diving and consider them more like tools and safety items I need to have with me to ensure a good dive. I should carry a small slate and an SMG would be nice if I owned one, if anyone reading this has an extra SMG you can give it to me, I'll take it!
Have a nice dive everyone!

Hello,
As for favorite 'accessory' that's a hard one. it cant' be my cameras because that's a must have. I dont' use a dive light so I can't say that. A few options: GPS, buck tuburon knife, emt shears, spare mask just to name a few.

For a thousand bucks, it had better be my 18w HID dive light :D
Seriously though, the light ties in with the game bag, and after two hours of hunting bugs, the pee valve comes in VERY handy.
IOTW: WATER would be my favorite accessory... salt or fresh, no matter :)

It's kind of hard to pick one, but at the moment it's the SBM as I only just got one, very easy to do a safety stop with the marker at the surface and me at 3-5m.
Make a great difference in the oceam with nothing to use and a height guide.
But then again I love my dive com, and my BC and regulators and ... and ... well I just love diving.

No, I don't recommend them. It's a tool for a solo diver only.

Diving in the Mid-Atlantic within 15 miles of the coast in relativly shallow water down to about 70fsw, limited viz can be a real problem. This year 10 foot of viz is about the norm. I don't leave the anchor line until I've tied my wreck reel off to something near-by. Makes the "Limited Viz" dive far less stressful knowing I can find the anchor line / boat at the end of the dive.

As a Hogarthian diver I always ask myself, do I NEED it or do I WANT it. It's a hard adult question we need to keep asking ourselves in an industry that pushes a lot of eye candy and crap at us.

Thats a great idea- thirty divers all tying wreckreels to the anchor line. I come aross that tangled mess and I'd cut it.
Check out Desert Star systems "Dive Tracker". Its the next best thing to sliced bread. I have used there transponder/reciever setup for about 6 or 8 years now. Just head of the boat in any direction, pop it out- turn it on ( have it clipped on a retracter reel and stored in a side BC pocket; size of a coke can). I don't care how far you are away from the boat (good up to 4000ft!) come up of the reefs a bit to clear for a stronger signal, spin 360* and it will give you an LED readout of aprox dist and a 15* span of direction back to the boat- center the 15* span and swim back to the boat ( I pop it out usually at around 1400-1200psi just to make sure its working and I can get a preliminary scan on the boat direction to see where I'm at based on depth and terraine. As long as I get a comfortable reading as to where I'm at, I will then burn the tank down to aprox1000- 800 while working spots back in that direction, then if down to1000- 800 (psi changes if deeper of course, but I am usually fairly shallow towards the end of the dive - maybe 50 ft on average head back direct- gives me proper ascent angle also.( Note: I am a solo diver and also use a 19cf pony)
Best part of this accessory is the reaction I get from other divers underwater when I come across them heading back in towards the boat- the comments deckside are always "where the hell did you come from"- they generally have seen me head out in a different direction then I return.

I have to say that I achieved new levels of comfort when I started diving with a custom-molded Seacure mouthpiece on my 2nd stage.
The reg feels sooooo good in my mouth, and no more malocclusion at the end of a dive!

I friend of mine is on the Costa Mesa S.W.A.T. team and has a resale licence to sell tactical gear- he gets me things cheaper than this. Each unit cost me $207, not $259. You what the Sport unit- not the Scout.
Truth Aquatics here in So Cal has the tranponders in the hull of all three of their boats- nice, I don't have to hang my transponder overboard with them. Everyone else I do- I just take an outside deck spot and clip it tetherd to a rope cliped to my deck spot tank band area- This way when I finish a dive and mark my tank for fill, I pull up the transponder each time.
