I'm exploring the possibility of getting my DM internship in the Micronesia region. One of the reasons is that I've dived Palau before and thoroughly enjoyed it, although it was a LOB experience.
Can anybody who have done an internship in the area give me some comments regarding:
1. Location - I have never visited Micronesia except Palau so don't know whether there are any other location that are suitable as it needs to be land based. Would Tahiti or any other location be a consideration for me?
2. Diversity and quality of dive sites - I am not looking to go professional so would like to enjoy my diving on a day-to-day basis while pushing my limits in order to improve my diving skills and knowledge.
3. Reasonable cost - As I will be staying at least a month, I would need to find a place where it is not entirely catered for the wealthy tourists (US$100+ per night hotel cost). My budget for accommodation is around US$1000 per month.
4. Availability of top side activities - Would like to be based out of somewhere there is a local community where I can unwind after diving (maybe a few drinks here and there but not any serious partying) and other activities are available.
