Well, we finally have soldified the logistics for our Normandy Trip. It has taken months of negotiations. This one is gonna be huge.

Our French contacts have some very interesting wreck sites that we will be visiting, including a German U-Boat and a German Schnellboot that has just recently been discovered. We have procured a great private dive boat and French captain. Our American guide has been doing maritime archaeological work in Cherbourg for over 20 years. The hotel is plush and right on the waterfront. We have some great historical presentations planned as well.
Go to:extremediveadventures.com/destinations/normandy for more info.

Check it out. I'd love to know what you think.

Sorry that I wasn't able to post the direct link to the trip. I just opened a new business screen name and I lost my scubaboard history of posts. Now it says I need five posts to post a link. If you go to extremediveadventures.com look under destinations tab and it will take you there.

Thanks.

I must say I'm jealous. Being a military history buff, I've been wondering about a trip like this for quite some time. I'm glad to hear you were able to put it together. Please letus know how it goes. I can't wait to see some pictures.
If you have a few minutes to PM me, I'd love to have the logistical info. you used to put this togeteher.
Have fun...
Kevin

Hi !
Nice trip nice wrecks, probably very interresting for you, as it is for us.

2 things are missing OMHO : no dive on the Leopoldville ( maybe because of the depth ?) and no visit at Omaha beach. This is the most important american war cemetery in Europe, we all know and visit it here , the beach of Omaha is also something you have to see.
The best thing would be to spend 1 night at Port en Bessin or Bayeux, there are very interresting wrecks there also ( the sherman tanks for exampple).

The guy you go with is really one of the most experienced diver on these wrecks. I think he's the dive guide who went diving on the tanks with the deep sea detectives, isn't he ?

Hello Air one, no our friends are not the guys who dove with deep sea detectives.
These are the profesionals I posted about earlier when we had just returned from Cherbourg. This is part of the crew who worked on the CSS Alabama. French and our American Guide.
We will be doing a lot of our diving out of St Vaast, and commuting back to Cherbourg.
Cherbourg offers a lot of activities and comforts for the group all right outside the hotel door.
We had considered diving the Leopoldville, but it is the opposite direction, also the Komet, we had talked about before
We also have dear friends who live in and around Cherbourg/Octeville and work in the area. And we have close friends who work at La Cite De Mer.
It looks like the coeficient for our dates are all really good (50 or less)
This is an incredible opportunity for us all as there is no dive travel available anywhere in the U.S that comes close to this!

Are you in Cherbourg?
rebreathe

No, I'm in Granville 120 km south on the west coast, Cherbourg is, of course, a place I love to go diving.

The crew who worked on the Alabama ? Wow, I see...they are probably the best team to go diving to the North Cotentin, the diver I was talking about is the specialist of the wrecks of the baie de Seine on the East side( including the sherman tanks of Utah and Omaha beach).

So your trip is much more on Cherbourg and the Cotentin than around Omaha.
I really think that you should include it in the journey ( come on ! even Obama goes there ! :)).
Next year maybe ?

Coef. 50 or less are the best, you have bigger chances to have a good viz and less curent of course.

Wellcome in France.

Enjoy

This looks like an amazing trip. I've always wanted to visit Normandy but couldn't imagine actually diving the wrecks there. Will you be offering this trip again in the future? If you dont mind, could you also copy and paste the logistics that you write up for Captain to myself?

There are a few things missing: gas availability (nitrox, deco mixes, helium), year of trip (I assume 2009) and most importantly cost.

I certainly am interested in going to Normandy one day. I'd be interested in seeing a write up of the trip.
