When deciding on which computer to get, I paid attention to which models had the best (most or most versatile) alarm features. The one I ended up with beeps and/or lights up at various pre-defined or user-defined points (e.g., when tank PSI reaches a certain point, when you are ascending too fast, after a specified elapsed time, etc.). However, if you are not looking at the computer you don't see it light up, and I believe I miss most audible alarms because they aren't that audible underwater.

My cell phone vibrates like crazy when I get a call. It would be very useful IMO for wrist computers to have a similar feature. Just a thought (maybe some industry folks will read and consider this...and then remember this post and send me a bunch of money, or at least a free vibrating wrist computer).

You have to put a coke alert on this...I almost fell out of my chair when I read it..

Its probably a problem of battery life. They try to make it so you have to change the battery as little as possible. Cell phones are rechargable so they dont care so much.

Dave, you're too late. Vibration alarm is already build into the Head-down Display of the Hammerhead replacement for the Inspiration. :D Courtesy of Juergensen Marine. Sorry, no royalties for you.:(

Agree with that.

and I'm not alone.

So the vibrator would work, if you stored it in an area that was senstive to the vibrations.

I guess when you see females smiling contently underwater, it is not always because they are narced...:)

That would require a specialty course along with its own G-card.

There would also have to be a standard set of hand signals, as moaning under water could be hazardous.

Eventually the Tech community would come up with an all new DIR standard. They may have to change from diving dry to diving wet and come up with a new extended dive power pack. They may even have to reconfigure deco stops to include a cigarette.

You had a lot of people interested until you mentioned it was for a computer! That was too funny! But, none the less, it is a good idea!=-)

for exceeding max depth or too rapid of an ascent  You certainly couldn't set it for low air / rapid breathing as it would end up in an endless loop :out:

Will this lead to the ladies intentionally creating violations?

Sure it will. Unless they can add a manual button to set it off. In that case it will just lead to smiling faces and flooded masks during the safety stop.

Now I wonder how often a "burn test" would have to be performed? Just to make sure that the batteries would not give out during the dive.

Ok, NOW I'm interested in tec diving. If there's fun toys for those long deco stops, they might be a LOT more interesting......;)

I can't wait to see the DIR model.

I bet JJ and his Halcyon staff will be running prototypes for a long time before final approval.

I am willing to make one for anyone who wants it.. but it will be necessary for me to make all the measurements personally to insure a proper fit ;)

You're right about missing the audible signal. I generally miss hearing my Mark VII sound off.

My only concern for the vibrating underwater would be that a stronger vibration might be mistaken for a vessel near by.

-Having said that, would the use of this device have to be demonstrated for airline security when traveling and taking as a carry on?
-How would it be listed for certification under specialties? "Vibrator Diver"?
-Would a deco stop be mandatory due to possibilities of high nitrogen levels?
-What are the possibilities of attracting undesirable aquatic creatures to investigate?

Those vibrating computers would have to compensate very quickly for the increasing consumption of air.... Dives are bound to become underwater quickies! :out:

The DIR course will have you take 3 backup vibrators just in case :)

This post probably has a lot of hits.... then people read it and went away... I bet it peaked a lot of interest.
