yeah...that site is pretty much an exhaustive source for higher end digital cameras...the dude does evrything...

As for the Nikon itself...I could never justify affording that...I have enought problems with the idiiot mode on my sony dsc-s85

A few pictures. Maui, Hawaii, July '08. Nikon 5400, Sea & Sea housing, Nikonos 105 strobe (TTL does not work with this housing, flash has to be set manually-but Standby mode on camea and flash does work).

This was Nikons answer to the Oly 5050 wasn't it? Those cameras had fast and high quality lenses and now all we get are dummed down toy cameras in the P&S class because the camera manufactuers are trying once again to shove us all into huge, honking, lens eating dslrs--no thanks.

Hey, Nikon, grow some--- and give us a pro level non slr camera.

Many of the worlds greatest photogrpahs are not digital, hades, they are not even SLR, they were made with range finder cameras. SLRs are kind of nerdy, hey, let me strap a camera around my neck that is as big as a bowling bowl so all the women will be impressed, the photographic equal to a Chevrolet Hummer.

I was a film rangefinder photographer before I moved to digital and I find that I like the "prosumer" non-slr digital cameras best. I never really liked the SLR film format (bulky, heavy, not great for action, impractical to zone focus). I find that the same advantages carry over to the digital world except that the "digital rangefinder" has the option of TTL viewing via the LCD screen! So as long as your digicam has an optical viewfinder (the 5400 does with a diopter correcton no less) you get the best of both worlds in a compact, lower cost package. Here are some top side pictures with the 5400.

Just to keep this alive here are some recent 5400 topside (2MB) pictures. I would like an oppinion here. Does shooting at 5MB v. 2MB really make that much difference? I am printing 4 x 6, 5 x7 and even some 8 x 10 prints and they all look pretty good.

I think I am developing a sensor problem. I have two black, fuzzy dots that show up in some, not all photo's at 10 and 12 O'Clock- usually in the sky portion of bright photos. Any ideas? Lens (exterior surface) has been cleaned many times. Do you see it in the attachement?

It was dust on the sensor. Anyone else had this problem? I have never heard of a non-removable lense camera having this problem. On another topic. I have asked Nikon if they can do a firmware update allowing the internal flash to be used as a non-full power external flash trigger for strobes having an on board auto sensor (e.g. YS 25 auto, Epoque 230). Anybody guess what Nikon's response will be?
