Does anyone know why there is typically a groove around the "tank banger" on a dive knife? Better acoustics maybe?

Yes I'm a little bored today. :D

On the butt end of many dive knifes is a metal stub that can be used to bang on a tank to make noise. Many of them have a groove that runs around it. I was just wondering why the groove would be there.

Here is one with one:

That isn't to make noise... though it does... that there is a paint chipper.
