Looking for some advice from you all. I had all but made up my mind to get a halcyon BP/wings set up when I've "come into" a zeagle 911 tech BC. I still want to get a BP but understand that zeagle now makes their own BP's for their wings. I have searched through the board and have found that zeagle and halcyon systems are not interchangeable (although slight modifications can be made). I am hoping to set this up for doubles.

Am now trying to decide which plate to get - halcyon or zeagle.

And trying to decide which wing.
The zeagle wing off the 911 is a 65#. I'd like to know if anyone has any comparisons between the zeagle wing and the halcyon 55#.
I know that this is similar to another post (I hope not too similar - if so, I apoligize)http://www.scubaboard.com/t28898/s.html

I've never seen the Zeagle wing, but here's something to think about.

The Halycon BP and wing is interchangeable with every BP and wing out there (that I know of) except the Zeagle.

And you're saying that the Zeagle and Halcyon are not interchangeable. That tells me the Zeagle is only compatible with the Zeagle BP or wing. If that is correct, then it severely limits your choices down the road.

Zeagle has the Manta Wing in 50lbs. and 65lbs. for use with backplates, and have had those for years now. They have the standard 11" space between mounting holes.

The new backplates also have 11" between the holes, so most other bladders will fit.

The PFS bladders used on the BCs have two mounting straps. Those will fit the Zeagle BCs that have the PFS (most including yours) AND their backplates. You can either use their backplate by itself, or 'sandwich' it between your BC and its bladder.

I sold a Zeagle wing last year after maybe 10 dives.I did not like the fabric on the stretch panel. It was a loose weave and snagged anything it rubbed against and the wing trapped air.The Material on the Halcyon is less prone to snags and appears much tougher.i have a Halcyon and it doesn't trap air.

caveseeker. Are you sure about this point that you made? Everything I've learned so far state that the new backplates made by zeagle do not have these 11" holes. I have never looked at one up close so I don't know for sure. Could you elaborate? Maybe I'm just confused.

Well I have about 50 dives on my Zeagle BP and 55# dual bladder wing now and I am loving it

I am running twin 100cft Fabers with a 5lt Stage as you will see from the photos in my sig.

It is very comfy indeed, one thing I do love about the wing is it does not float up around the tanks like some I have seen.

Overall the Zeagle Metal gear is fantastic the BP is secured by 10 SS nut and bolts so there is no way that are going to detach.

I am using the standard single webbing harness on mine.

If you want any further insight into my setup let me know

Sydney. Thanks for posting. I'd like to pick your brian a little more...

what type of zeagle wing do you use? Is it the manta wing or more like the big bertha type? The wing I'm thinking of using is a 65# that will come off of my BC - sort of looks like the big bertha type.

how many bolts actually hold the wing and how many hold the tanks? (or do all bolts hold everything)

It also looks like there is a strap around one tank in the picture. Are the straps holding the tanks to the back plate or are they bolted.

sorry if these are seemingly dumb questions

Have a look at the enclosed pic. The Zeagle backplate has three mounting holes in the upper center and a slot in the lower to accomodate even non-standard sized bladders.

But don't take my word for it. Call Zeagle at (813) 782-5568 and just ask them what range the holes & slot have.

HI Bridediver
No such thing as a dumb Question

What I will do is take my rig apart on the weekend, it is Saturday tomorrow, take photos of how it all fits together and post them up for you.

But to answer your questions
I am using the 55# Little Bertha Dual Bladder, I often dive a Semidry so like the redundancy a dual bladder offers me. I find it has a bucket load of lift with all my kit on

The Bladder is secured to the BP by about 10 SS nuts and bolts with plastic inserts in the bolts to prevent the ever coming undone. I will count them and take photos.

The Tanks are secured with the mighty thick SS bands I use the Zeagle ones. They are then attached to the center holes in the BP.
