buying a drysuit ??

ive seen lots of people in ontario with a shell type drysuit is the a reason to pick those over crushed neopreen

Shell suits are lighter and dry faster than neoprene suits (compressed or not).

Depends what your looking for in a suit.

Hi DS1,

When purchasing a drysuit you have many things to consider. Primary of these of course is the buoyancy characteristics of the suit. The reason you see so many shell suits is that the buoyancy characteristics of such a suit is consistant. They do not change with depth. This means you are not overweighted and you have fairly static buoyancy characteristics thoughout the dive. The secret of the shell suit is good underwear.

With a neoprene suit your buoyancy is dynamic. You are overweighted just to get the suit to sink and then the deeper you go the more buoyancy you loose as the suit crushes and the more air you have to add to your BC which cause dynamic changes in fairly short distances in the water column making such a combination rather hard to control.

The shell suit with good underwear is a more expensive solution but it is welll worth it in the long run.
