underwater hotel

I think I remember reading, when I was young(er) (no comments), about a place that you could go and live underwater, like a hotel, for a period of time. Does anyone know if it exists or was it some sci-fi that I was reading?

Staying wet in FL.!

I saw an ad for it about 2-3 years ago. It was in Florida, if memory serves. I will check my hard copy files and see if I kept something.

What I remember was that one checked in on dry land and, then, scuba dove to the room. Now, it might have been a joke that someone put on the net...I never went to it. But I sure as heck remember the ad!

It's in the Florida Keys and it's still in operation. Sorry, I don't recall the name, but I'm sure someone here does. From what I've heard, it isn't all that it's cracked up to be.

In my files I found a reference to Jules' Undersea Lodge in Key Largo, FL.

I have not looked at the site, so you are on your own. Would you be so kind as to report back when you find out something?

Found the info....thanks to Joewr. $350 per nite, for groups of 4 to 6 it goes down to $300 per nite. Must dive down to it. A class is available to qualify guests who are not certified divers so they can dive to the hotel. They offer different dive packages; Underwater Habitat, Buoyancy, Deep diver, Equipment specialist, underwater Archaeology. Sounds interesting to me..my wife is not sold or even mildly interested. Oh well..it still is good information for my students..I'm a middle school teacher. Thanks again!

Even if your wife were interested, you shouldn't get excited. It's not located out on the reef, but in a wide part of the canal they refer to as a "logoon." I wouldn't stay there unless it was free and even then I'd have second thoughts.

It makes sense that it is protected. I mean you sink (ha ha) that much money ito something, you want a long term return on the money. I would guess wave action is worse than wind. WWW-how do you know so much about it? Friends or do you know the area?

Yeah, Walter, 'fess up! Have you been spying? Were you the one who took that picture that Greg showed--and that was regulated? You know, Walter, my other job is on the National Enquirer and we might do an article on you!

Besides that, I think that you are right about the tunicate. And I thought that the other mystery photo might be a bryozoa?????? Think we should send him back to do the job right?

In a previous life I was a DM/Boat Captain in the upper Keys. In the course of those misspent years, I learned a few things about the Key Largo area. I still get down there quite a bit for dives.
