vytec question

I have an air integrated wrist mounted Vytec that has 30 dives on it. Last week I was making several shallow dives-- down to 16' for 15min, then surface for a couple of minutes, then repeat. After the third interval, someone asked what time it was and after several button pushes I found the current time. At this point I dont remember what mode the computer was in, but we descended again and for the reminder of the 10 min dive, the Vytec read 0 ft the entire dive and did not register the dive at all. It is possible that I was in Plan or Simulation mode accidentally. If that's the case, shouldn't the computer have automatically switched to Dive mode as soon as I descended ?

Anyways I spoke to Suunto tech support and the Vytec is supposed to go in dive mode when you descend no matter what mode it is in.... so it's being sent back for a check up. I hope that there is actually something wrong with it that they can fix and that it is not some kind of intermittent problem. The tech guy said that sometimes they get problems that can not be re-produced and they just send the computer back to the customer ??? This is definitely my last Suunto product. Well, maybe not...
