Not sure where else to post this? I keep forgetting to ask local divers but they all seem to have the same collapsible table for gearing up. It's black and red plastic, square with 4 legs plus a metal pole in the middle. Anyone else seen this? Seems like some secret dive club. I couldn't find them at my local home depot or lowes... where are they hiding?

Am I getting that right: Some people are using tables to don their gear?!

we used to have a plastic table that folded in half, until my dive buddy put a hot pot on it and melted it to crap and back . . .

was a great little table, I think he got it from crapmart . . .

thinking of sturdying up an old field table as there are plenty of them laying around, and they are cheap . . .

The table you are talking about is a Husky X-Table, I found mine in the tool section of the local Home Depot for ~ $35. Folds to a nice compact flat square and holds like 500 lbs. Earlier version have aluminum legs, new versions are plastic, weight capacity is the same. You won't find them in the on-line Home Depot catalog (at least I couldn't).

Works great for gearing up!

For some reason it's hard to find in the US.

I have a Stanley Folding Work Bench. Got it from Home Depot, but I think they are not available anymore. Though you may still find one. Here is one that is very similar and a real good price.

Picked it up at Home Depot today. They were hidden near an endcap in the lumber section but a clerk helped me find it. $34.76 inc tax.

Yep, the Husky X-Tables are what most of us use. Great for staging gear.

Yeah, we should have brought back-ups.

However, you impressively worked that rock.

The table wasn't on a stable surface and he came down on it a bit hard then it broke at the center hinge

We actually stood it up and it was still sturdy enough to take his doubles again.

The tables are really handy when you have doubles... With a single tank I can do without and I would worry more about my rig rolling off and breaking something.

Don,
Remember the June 07 CRB dive? (http://www.divematrix.com/showthread.php?t=618&highlight=crb) There was another Tech Diver/GUE instructor and core diver chick who put us to shame by not using a woosy table :doh2:

I think Lynne is a little more hard core than we think ;)

An X-Table would be nice, but I still haven't gotten one. Much of the time it is just one more thing to load in the car and carry down to the water. Less is better. So far there has always been a place to don/doff our doubles. CRB is no exception. I have never tried Monastery in doubles with a scooter though.

Do we ALL have Oxycheq wings? :lotsalove:

We've made do with one table at CRB and Ft. Ross...just need a willing hand.

I haven't tried it, but I bet you could sit and don on the ground, dig in your heels and have your buddy pull you to your feet. Just be careful about the shoulder joint and stop when it pops :)

That was a couple of years ago, we've gone through a lot of wings and I think only a few Oxycheq ones remain.

Mine is headed to Mexico.

Actually, a better strategy, that I used on Sunday, is to sit down and shrug into the harness, then roll around until you are on your hands and knees, and get up from there. It ain't easy, but I can just do it.

You can do this in doubles? I think I'd just end up turtled in the sand, arms and legs waiving futilely in the air, and eventually expire from dehydration and exposure.
