The dates for the 5th Annual ScubaBoard invades the keys are set for June 18 - 21, 2010.
Tentatively on the schedule at the moment, is 4 days of diving in the Keys, Lodging, and a bash on Saturday night.
The location of the bash is secured, we're planning a party at a location much closer to Key Largo. There will be great food, beer, and even an indoor room with air conditioning.
That's all I'm going to say right now. But save the date. You should be able to make reservations through ScubaBoard by December, 2009.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn. It was nice. They have a large outside tiki hut for large gatherings, with 2 pools and an inside banquet room. Just a thought for the bash.

I know it's early... Can I take a run at the shirts for next year? I have a buddy that runs a really cool shirt printing business and he has some great artwork that may be good for the whole ITK/Pirate theme.
Strictly an informal thing at this point.

I'm not going outside of SB next year for the shirts, meaning: I'll be handling the sales internally via SB, and probably pre-sales can be done online. Feel free to submit a design to me, or have him contact me and we can work something out. I'm open to see good artwork. :)
The holiday inn does have the tiki hut, but their pricing for the party was a a lot more than what I thought people would want to pay. The location for the party next year is locked up, and has both indoor (air conditioned) and outdoor seating.

What about Cafe Press? They do such a great job at really, really good prices. And the quality of their t-shirts... Well I'm still wearing one from years ago. Just a thought :) Also they can ship them and people can have them even before ITK. And the girls can get ones made for girls :blinking:
Howard I know of a couple of others that also wanted to try their hand at t-shirst. Maybe have something like last year but have the submissions and pricing done privately so there is no circus or stealing of ideas. :dontknow:

I have no problem with the submission way of doing this. We still have a few months to work out the details... I agree it's a good idea to get them out (and delivered) early...
I'll work something up and PM Howard when it's ready... I'm not going to rush it.

So, where is the best place to fly into - Fort Lauderdale or Miami?

So, where is the best place to fly into - Fort Lauderdale or Miami?
Miami airport is 45 minutes closer but the pros of flying into Fort Lauderdale are as follows:
the rental cars are on-site at the airport (no shuttle bus to the rental lots)
typically better airfares because take-off and landing fess are lower
easier egress and ingress to the interstate or Turnpike
lionfish slayers and KOH'ers live in Fort Lauderdale for the most part

Having flown in/out of both of them, I'd say that flying into Ft Lauderdale is worth the extra 45 minutes in driving time. (it's typically cheaper also)
MIA just sucks.
Especially if you have to rent a car and return it. The rental car returns are a pain in the ass there. And not safe to refuel the rental car around MIA airport unless you are well armed.

Ohhhhh yeah!
Two airports I avoid like the plague Miami and Philadelphia!
Ft. Lauderdale is a MUCH nicer airport! (but then again.... the last three times I've been down to the Keys I drove!:D)

If you are renting a car, take a look at Ft Meyers as well. Sounds crazy, but it's an easy drive straight over on 75 then down the turnpike, maybe an extra 30 mins longer than FLL, but that's off-season on the left coast and you can get deals on flights and cars that time of year. Smaller airport (easier in and out) served by all the discount airlines as well.

It's 120 miles from Daniels Pkwy in Fort Myers to where I-75 intersects the Turnpike at the Dade County line.
Please explain how that equates into "maybe an extra 30 minutes longer than FLL".

details, details....I forgot, I drove from naples (it was early that morning :D ), not Ft Meyers and I was factoring in how long it takes to get out of the airport, in the car and on the road, less air trafic, taxiway time, etc. So in the end an extra hour, maybe a little more, but you might be able to save a few $$ depending on where you are comming from.

By the time you deal with MIA crap, if you landed at FLL you'd already be most of the way to the Keys.

The final details on the diving, the Saturday night party, and the hotels are being nailed down this week.
And of course divers of every certification level and experience are invited. There will be dives offered from 30' reef dives all the way to 300' wreck dives for the technical crowd.
