Hello everybody,

I own a Canon EOS 50D and two lenses (60mm macro and EF-S 10-22) and I haven't made up my mind so far what would be the best price/quality solution for me - an u/w case for my DSLR or a new P&S camera with its own u/w casing.

Looking at the case for G10, the configuration is pretty straightforward:

- 6146.10 - case
- 6430.4 - wide angle conversion dome port
- 3944.51 - substrobe DS-51

If I got it right, and that's all I need for a functional system (besides the camera itself) to take wide-angle and macro pictures, the bhphoto.com price would be around $1,450.

On the other hand, if I'm looking at a case for my 50D, here is what I think I'd need in order to use both my lenses:

- 6870.50 - case
- 5502 - flat port for Canon 60mm macro
- 5503.50 - 6" dome for Canon 10-22
- 5510.45 - dome assembly (needed for 10-22)
- 5509.28 - zoom and clamp set (needed for 10-22)
- 5510.22 - 8" port dome for Canon 10-22
- 3944.51 - substrobe DS-51

Do I really need all three items (5510.45, 5509.28 and 5510.22) in order to use Canon EF-S 10-22, or do I need more items to be able to use both lenses and a strobe for macro and wide angle shots?

The BHPhoto prices for the above items is around $2,850.

Questions:

- Did I pick up the correct part numbers for both cameras?
- Do you think that the quality of the pictures taken by the G10 versus 50D with better optics would justify to pay twice as much?
- Do you think the DS-51 is enough for macro shots, or I should pick go either with DS-160 or two DS-51 strobes?

Thanks for your input!

You are right on the product numbers for the G10 set-up.

For the 50D set up:
- The housing comes with the #5509.28 zoom gear sleeve and clamp set as well as the standard set.
- You have two ports listed for the same lens, both a 6" dome and an 8" dome. The 8" dome will provide sharper edges especially when used with the 10-22mm lens. However many people are satisfied with the results achievable with a 6" dome. If choosing the 8" dome, you will need both the #5510.45 dome assembly and #5510.22 port body.

The Substrobe DS51 should be fine for most of your macro work. However the DS160 would be much better for covering a lens as wide as the 10-22mm. The appropriate DS160 package would be #3944.90.

I think you can get great photos with either system. I'll let someone else comment on the justification for the price differential!

Hi Jean,

Thanks for the quick answer! :kiss2:

To summarize, if I want to use both lenses (60mm and 10-22) with the 6" dome, I only need:

- 6870.50 - case
- 5502 - flat port for Canon 60mm macro
- 5503.50 - 6" dome for Canon 10-22
- 3944.51 - substrobe DS-51

I just want to make sure I got it all right, because I don't have any local shop selling it in my country and I'll probably have to buy it online.

Thanks again!
