Wreck diving the "Carrie Lee" for those Tech divers.
CARRIE LEE - DiveTech Ltd.
The Carrie Lee wreck sits in 165-260fsw/50-80msw off the southern end of Grand Cayman. The Carrie Lee has twice slid down the sloping top of the wall, resting today right on the edge of the drop-off, with her bow tipping over the edge of the abyss(4,000 feet). From the top of the wheelhouse at 155fsw/50msw, she slopes down with her bow out over the wall. The bottom of the bow sits in 260fsw/79msw, with the majority of her deck in the 170fsw/52msw range. A great site for Trimix. Today, the Carrie Lee is abundant with an overgrowth of encrusting and tube sponges and corals. A large variety of marine life has made their home here. Warm water and great visiblity (200 ft plus).
Dive sites on the island for Technical divers are numerous and many dives are exploratory to see new walls and sites. The Carrie Lee Wreck was a favorite, The Elevator, Nancy's Chute, Dan's Donut, Funky Town, Elephant Ear Sponge, Leslie's Curl and many other wall sites with chutes, swim through, pipes and overhangs abounding, the deep sponge belt being also a favorite. Technical charters are priced per dive, and vary depending on the depths and profiles being run. Gases were priced separately. Custom packages were put together to match our diving need. DiveTech ran some of our trips with just two (2) divers.
