Hi, I was YMCA Certified, and remember during my classes hearing about how you could get a CMAS card too, how does one go about doing this?
Thanks.
Thanks.

pop-n-jack July 30th, 2009, 09:51 PM Hi, I was YMCA Certified, and remember during my classes hearing about how you could get a CMAS card too, how does one go about doing this? Thanks. Walter July 31st, 2009, 11:15 AM One does this by sending a copy of one's YMCA C-card to the YMCA SCUBA Program along with the fee. In a week or two one received a CMAS card. The only problem with it is this option ended with the YMCA SCUBA Program at the end of last year. The good news is there's no need for a CMAS card, your Y card will still be accepted everywhere. pop-n-jack July 31st, 2009, 04:12 PM I know it doesn't matter in terms of using the card, but I remember hearing the CMAS one was required over in Europe, is that still the case? Thanks, Walter August 1st, 2009, 12:28 AM It's never been the case. winker88 August 1st, 2009, 05:34 PM Where in Europe are you going? Thanks pop-n-jack August 1st, 2009, 07:12 PM No where yet, but was just reminded of it. CMAS One August 2nd, 2009, 08:30 PM It used to be that the old YMCA program was permitted to issue "equivalency" certifications but since they do not exist that is not available. The only way you can achieve a CMAS qualification is to successfully complete a CMAS course. This is the same as with any other legitimate organization. If you visit our website you can get more information on CMAS training Welcome to CMAS AMERICAS OFFICIAL WEBPAGE (http://www.cmasamericas.com) Regards, Frank Toal Jr., President CMAS AMERICAS CMAS One August 2nd, 2009, 08:32 PM Please see the reply to above. YMCA / CMAS "Equivalency" is no longer available. Regards, Frank J. Toal Jr., President CMAS AMERICAS CMAS One August 2nd, 2009, 08:37 PM Again your information is not entirely correct. In some places such as Greece and France you must be certified by a CMAS member organization to dive without going through a check out procedure in order to dive without a guide (i.e. Instructor or Three Star Diver (Divemaster)). Of course other agencies do not acknowledge this as they are trying to get you to take their course. Regards, Frank J. winker88 August 3rd, 2009, 01:31 PM Were are you located in the UK? Frank Hi Frank I am located in Dorset, South West. Do you run CMAS Americas. Thanks James CMAS One August 11th, 2009, 01:01 AM Yes I do out of Clearwater Florida. winker88 August 11th, 2009, 04:57 AM Yes I do out of Clearwater Florida. Hi Frank Can I buy one of your CMAS Tee Shirts? Thanks James DMarelli August 28th, 2009, 11:29 AM The YMCA scuba program was a federation of CMAS for the USA. Since the YMCA has ceased operating a scuba program and it has been continued under the name Scuba Educators International (and being run my former YSCUBA leaders), there have been negotiations between SEI Diving and CMAS about continuing the long standing relationship. I do not know what the status of the process is but you might check with SEI Diving at SEI Diving Home Page (http://www.seidiving.org). By the way, SEI Diving renews former YSCUBA leaders much the same way that they renewed with the Y in the past. It also will replace lost YSCUBA certification cards. CMAS One August 31st, 2009, 06:11 PM Hi, I was YMCA Certified, and remember during my classes hearing about how you could get a CMAS card too, how does one go about doing this? Thanks. You need to take a CMAS course in order to get a CMAS Card. The YMCA does not exist anymore so the system is the same as that for any other legitimate organization. You need to make the qualification requirements for the certification you wish to have. CMAS ONE
