I am looking for a liveaboard that leaves from Florida. This will be my first liveaboard, and I was wondering if anyone knows of any good boats.

When do you want to go? Current options are Gulfstream Eagle and Shear Water out of Palm Beach, the two Nekton boats out of Fort Lauderdale, Ultimate Getaway out of Fort Myers, and returning in 2010, the S/V Juliet out of Miami.

There are quite a few options, depending on where you want to go, when you want to go, what part of Florida you want to leave from, cost range, number of guests on board, the kind of diving you want to do, and so on and so on. We are going out on one of the Nekton boats to the Cay Sal banks in a few weeks, as this is one of our favorite destinations, and we have used Nekton before and know what to expect. If you are just starting out at this addictive hobby, and you want more information, you have come to the right place. Start researching the incredible amount of material which is available here, and begin narrowing it down to what you need. The Nekton boats are a good place to start, especially with their super stable design which all but eliminates sea sickness, but the Juliet is another Florida based boat that you might want to consider. Give us a little more information and we will try to help you pick your first liveaboard experience. Woody

ditto....... from around April until late Sept, the Nekton boats leave from Ft. Lauderdale to dive the Bahamas. Excellent diving and a fun boat. The boat is very stable, much more so that a monohull, so less rocking and rolling! :D I highly recommend them for a first liveaboard. Nekton Cruises > Home
I have trip reports and videos and photos from both of our trips:

Another option is the M/V Spree out of Key West. Next week I'm going on a special Keys trip on the Spree with singledivers.com. Normally they do the Dry Tortuga route.

The Spree is well known for the Flower Gardens in the Gulf off Texas, but I believe that they have permamently relocated to Key West.
