Did a few drops outfront of SLI in 75-80FSW. First dive, 66 degrees and no one home- not even progies or sheepies. The water was dirty with a screaming surface current and nothing on the bottom. Visibility less then 20'. At times, we would swim through pockets of warmer water, then get blasts of chilly stuff. The current seemed confused, pushing east at times..? While on the surface waiting for the other group to drop a mile south, we could see the edge of what looked like the gulf stream about 300 yards to the east.. As the second group descended, we could see them almost all the way to the bottom- they reported warmer water with visibility 15-20', then clearing up to over 50'! Third drop was just 200 yards south of the second and sure enough, the water was cold and hazy again. We determined we were caught in an eddie (sp?), just on the edge of the gulf stream.
Ended up with 6 hogfish (rare for SLI??) and a mess of glasseye snapper and sheepshead.- Nothing special, but a great day on the water
