View Full Version : Console to Wrist Mount...

After a little over a year with my current console, I've decided that I would like the compass and computer to both be wrist mounted -- but want to keep the same units. Does anyone have any experience with this?
I have a puck-shaped Oceanic/Pelagic DataPlus computer, and the genercia Oceanic compass. They should be easy enough to find wrist boots for. Assuming I then remove the three-unit rubber boot from the SPG that remains, are there single boots to protect the SPG?
Any insights appreciated!

I had a boot for the compass and used that. But for the computer, I just cut my rubber console in half and then used bungees to hold the computer on my wrist. Works great.
I'm sure you can find single rubber boots for the spg for itself.

I just found wrist boots for both the compass and the computer, and figured I could do the circumcision on the old console boot myself -- rather than buying a new one. Just want to be able to clip it off when not in use. But after this weekend's dives, I am more convinced than ever that the compass the computer need to be on wrists.

I use a DIY ziptie and bungee contraption on both computer and compass. The bungee makes it very easy to slip them on and off. Without the large rubber boots and straps they are very light weight and low profile.
My spg rides bootless with a boltsnap tied on for cliping it off at my hip.

I think I could fashion something very low-profile and easy-on/off with some surgical tubing, zip ties, etc. I also saw a few bootless SPGs tethered to BC/BPW configurations this past weekend at Dutch.

Yep -- I saw both of those, and like the compass-specific one, as my current compass has the side-view window, which makes it easy to hold in front of you and read. Thanks!

Bungees or Surgical Tubing?
I used 1/8th inch bungee. 2 Independant loops, so should 1 fail the other will back it up ;)

1/8th inch -- comes in ten-foot lengths. I think I'll mimic your two-loop system, and then simply removed the three-gauge console boot, and zip-tie the SPG to a boat clip to fasten to my should strap.
I have a feeling that this little adjustment is going to make a difference.

In those photos of your bungee-strapped computer and compass, I notice that one of the units doesn't have a place to attach anything, and so you zip-tied the bungees to the unit. Is it secure? I have a feeling that my computer is like that -- can't remember, and don't have it handy. I've only removed it from its console boot once to replace batteries, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have any holes or slots. So maybe the wrist boot would be a better choice.
Any ideas?
