Any recommendations for Catalina dive outfits to use on the July 4th weekend?

I've never been to Catalina, so any info would be great. Thanks.

If so, there are just two shops -- Catalina Scuba Luv and Catalina Divers Supply. I have been out with Scuba Luv and found the trip enjoyable. CDS also operates the fill station/trailer out at Casino Point...

Check www.ladiver.com and www.californiadiveboats.com for additional info...

You don't say whether you're staying in Avalon or not, but a couple of other options ...

Unless I was going to Casino Point, my first preference for diving Catalina would be to take one of the dive charter boats out of Long Beach/San Pedro (listed at the second site that Kelpmermaid mentioned).

At Catalina's isthmus, the Two Harbors Dive Shop runs boat dives as well. Or if you're adventuresome you can rent a tank and kayak from them and explore some of the coves out toward the west end.

Kelpmermaid and bluebanded goby offer good advice. CDS does run a Newton 46 dive boat and I've enjoyed my dives with them as well as the SCUBA Luv crew. The Two Harbors area may offer some better diving since vis has been lousy in Avalon recently. Oh, you're coming in Nov. Vis should be pretty good then everywhere.

Feel free to PM me as I live on the island when I'm not fortunate enough to be diving exotic (erotic?) locales. "To live and dive in LA"

USC marching band - lots of fun, lots of hotties, a big elbow to elbow zoo.

This will be the first 7/4 in about 4 years that I won't be there. Its a party. if you're planning on staying, you better make plans soon.

If you're diving, take a land boat from LA. Its silly to pay $42 to get there then pay another $XXXX to dive there - when you can pay less from LA and dive essentially the same places.

BUT - going there on 7/4 has the compensating virtue of an Avalon overrun with college mayham. Larrys is insane that weekend.

Did I mention the hotties...?

El Diego-

Mo2vation is absolutely right on with his comment. The Fourth fills up quickly- we have limited hotel rooms and campground space. So unless you plan to dive 24 hrs/day look for a place to crash now.

Kelpmermaid- those Kellet whelks seem to have spent all that sexual energy. I haven't seen much evidence lately other than the egg capsules on the rocks, and many of those have already hatched.

Of course the garibaldis are going crazy and eggs are appearing in their nests. I even got bit several times by one male while I was videotaping a nearby subject.

If garibaldi were 3 ft long, you couldn't dive Catalina!
