im lookin for spots somewhere around monterey for spearfishing. me and my buddies have been goin up north and we are lookin for somewhere to dive down here to save some gas. i was thinking about stillwater cove? but idk maybe del monte beach or carmel bay? we need a spot plz

Check SpearBoard California Section. Search Stillwater for pics of fish. Freediving Del Monte may be boring except for the Spring when the anchovies come in close to shore. You may need to go deep for Halibut. Rockfish, Lingcod, Cabezon South of Carmel Bay - Carmel River State Beach north of the mouth of the river and further south Garrapata State Park and Big Sur. Go and talk to the divers and fishermen at Carmel River SB.

Hi Freediver, you can go anywhere that is not indicated in red on this map with the exception of the Ed Ricketts SMCA (hook and line only). Blue areas are ok.

I suggest East Point Pinos, Coral Street, West Lover's Point (lover's 3) and Casa Verde North and South. Haven't done much spearing in Carmel, but the area north of Monastery Beach (outside the reserve) holds some nice lings.

Happy spearing

i live in SC and started off in carmel/stillwater. Vis can really suck there, but my buddy calls it "the aquarium" due to all of the fish you'll see there. Steamers lane in SC is pretty clear (30 foot on tuesday, 10-15 today). Fish are there! but you really gotta look for em. Its pretty shallow there, so you can really just cruise the top and dive down for dinner.
