... so I'm only going to post it in the Alaska forum. The rest of ScubaBoard doesn't even bother reading in here, right? =p

Anyhoo...

This summer our dive club (The Unalaska Divers Association), had a brilliant idea to produce a music video based on one of our local dive sites. After a couple months of meeting on the weekends we managed to pull it off and the result is amusing, to say the least!

From the YouTube description:

The inspiration for this song came from one of our local dive sites; the Delta Western T-Dock. This dock is one of the original docks on Unalaska Island, and has history dating back to the fur-trading days of the late 1800s. Currently, the dock supplies fuel to much of the Bering Sea fishing fleet and is always bustling with activity as various ships come in to refuel. Below the waterline, numerous species of aquatic life have made a home amongst the pilings. Anemones, starfish, barnacles and tube worms can be found attached to the wooden dock supports, and several different types of crab are often found crawling on the ocean floor.

Fueled by a fit of hypothermia-induced creativity after a particularly good dive at this site in April, the concept of making this music video was born. After hard work through the summer, our project finally came to fruition, and we're excited for this opportunity to share one of our favorite dive sites with Divers and Ocean enthusiasts everywhere!

Produced by the Unalaska Divers Association in partnership with OTFB Productions, Unalaska Community Broadcasting, and Delta Western Fuels.

So, for those of you who want to see a bunch of cold-water divers acting goofy, here's the link:

Yeah no one ever reads this forum from other places :D

Thanks for laugh. I am sure we would be laughing together IF I was in Alaska.

The question is how many dance routines and practice sessions did that take? No one overheated in their drysuits either?

I think we did it 4 or 5 times and came up with some collection that worked out well together. No overheating in the suits - the air temperature was in the low 50s at the most.

Please, please, please cross-post this in the Dork Divers forum!!!
Oh, we definitely qualify!

Thanks for all the positive feedback =)

That was pretty funny, really enjoyed it.

I'd love to see some more videos of diving in Alaska. My wife and I spent some time in Girdwood and along the Kenai Peninsula and loved it. I wondered what diving there would be like. :)

I laughed so hard I almost wet myself (no She-P here). Loved the dance routine (and the red Chuck Taylor rock boots), but the best part was the synchronized swimming routine. Could Ester Williams ever pull that off in a drysuit (even one blinged out with sequins and plastic flowers on the drysuit hood)? NOT

Thanks for lightening up my mood for the day. Your video wins my vote for the DoDY (not quite an EMMY or Oscar) - "Dork Divers of the Year" Award. And I nominate you for Miss/Mr. Congeniality award for your attitude of "fun times will be had by all" regardless of conditions. You rock and if I weren't such a WWW (warm water wimp) I'd love to dive with your group.

While the Unalaska Divers Association has numerous other goals including underwater conservation and education, one of the core focuses will always be on promoting local diving. And the best way to do that is by having as much fun as possible =)

I'm going to put a website up for us eventually and it'll be worth dropping in occassionally to see what's going on. Our dive season starts ramping up when the water gets colder, and the primo dive time is October - February. Our diving season is just getting started!

Dove one of our two easily accessible (and not superfund site) lakes today - 25+ feet of visibility and nice clean water. Was enjoyable, even if we didn't see much of anything, and it's a great place to practice navigation as there is very little variation in the underwater terrain. We also hold "Church of Scuba" on Sundays - nothing more than an excuse for everyone to gather in the water on a regular basis once a week and have some fun checking out a local dive site.

It's cold here, but we make the best of it!

We had a blast putting the video together, and our choreographer will be SO impressed to find out that someone actually recognized our jazz square - we all thought she was making that s*** up! Our synchronized floating (aka cold water ballet) was another thing that didn't quite work as planned, but creative video editing helped turn it into what I think is the funniest part of the whole video!

Glad y'all are enjoying it! :lotsalove:
