After reading various posts on other websites of people mixing their own nitrox or trimix for pennies on the dollar, I'm wondering how many people here do the same. I've been thinking about buying the Oxygen Hackers' Companion book and taking a closer look at it.

I mix my own too...... I would suggest you get the book and read it cover to cover, even if you don't ever do a thing with it, you will learn a lot.....and that's one thing nobody can take away from you and that is knowledge.

...about continuous blending?

Do a search of our archives using continuous AND blending.

More important to me than the savings is the convenience... when I come back from a nitrox dive with tanks half full I just top them up from the bank in most cases.

How much does a big bottle of o2 go for these days?

... on where you are and who you are.

I pay 15.2 USD for 300cf of ABO (aviator's breathing oxygen.)

This is an easy one. Mixing it yourself (with the proper training and certs) is a snap and saves a ton of money.

Get a good fill whip, the gas you need, buy the GUE decoplanner which comes with a fantastic blender tool free (lots of ones out there, but I like the detail of the GUE tool a lot) and go for it. The book "Technical guide to gas blending" will step through every little detail to set up a basic setup to a complex blending station for a huge dive operation. you can pick it up from Amazon for almost nothing.

As long as you know what you are doing it is really easy.

If I had a truck, I could get Aviation O2 for $16USD for a 280 cu ft "H" tank (the company won't deliver in a residential area, and even if they did, they only deliver one day a week).

I currently get an "H" tank of medical O2 delivered right to my garage door (same day or next day delivery), but it costs $25USD. That's $1 a tank (AL80) for O2 (mostly 32% and 34% mixes).
