do you think that divers in communities are joined more for the passion of diving or the need of enjoying??

I think we want to enjoy, socialize and spend time in company and diving is only a way to it. Of course it is also a passion otherwise we'd do other.

And you?

ciao, Marco

The people I dive with are very nice and I enjoy their company, but I have lots of non-diving friends and if it wasn't for the diving connection we would most likely not hang out together. I'm looking forward to doing an easy solo dive today (buddies are hard to find on a Monday mid-morning) and will very much enjoy the solitude.
No, I dive for the diving, not the community. The diver friends I meet are a positive side benefit.

Interesting question.....

Diving is my passion and my main pasttime. I do some whitewater kayaking, but mostly I dive. All my vacations are dive related, all my weekend excursions are usually dive related as well.

I don't have any friends to speak of that are non-divers save one. For the most part, my friends have all come about through the hobby with those others who haven't, falling by the wayside due to other interests. It's not intentional, it just happens.

I joined a Dive Club because I enjoy diving and wanted to meet other divers and dive locally. The social thing is just there for me. Some in the Club live for the dive, others live for the social activities. Everyone kinda has their own dive/social agenda. All in all its what the individual wants to get out of it.

So in answer to your question I would have to say its mostly for the diving atmosphere as a whole.
The diving, the company, the road trips, the partys, the arguments, the agreements, but most of all the passion of being underwater...cool aint it?

I have met some fine folks diving, and have dive buddies of many years standing from around the world. Of course, I've met some real jerks, too.
My best friends, however, are nondivers, people I knew before I even got into scuba.

I dive more for the diving itself than the social aspects. I'd likely turn down a trip with a group of my dive buddies and go with a group of strangers (provided that they were good divers) if they were going somewhere that I very much wanted to scuba.

Stay golden.

I love the water, I love diving, in the summer most of my time is spent in the water. But when diving I love hangin' out with other divers talkin' about dives, music, sports, whatever. So I dive for the enjoyment of diving, but also for the good company diving brings with it.

It's a little of both. Diving has made me more social and I have certainly met many good freinds through diving. I also enjoy socializing with other divers on my boat or other boats and it is something I look forward to.

On the other hand, I often find myself restricted by my various dive buddies' limitations. I look forward to a couple deep solo dives every weekend and find I have to do them about 7am before other folks start showing up.

Sometimes I find myself having to remind myself to be cordial and encouraging when a newer diver shows up and wants to dive with me on days when I would rather just go solo. I think it is important to work with newer divers and to help them get the experience they need to improve. But I like the solitude, relaxation, and self sufficiency of solo diving and perhaps most of all I like getting a break from leading or sheparding other less experienced divers.

I have always enjoyed water sport and Diving is definitely of them. Diving has expanded my social Life and I have made many friends through diving. :)

I sure enjoy socialising with these newly found friends. We hang out at :coffee: cafes and talk abt almost anything

Diving not only bring enjoyment to me :vict: , it also includes the good company that comes with it :ghugs:

:wavey: to diving
