I will be in S. Florida in early October and can only make one 2 tank dive. This my only S. Florida dive of the year.

I need to know the very best choice with both the dive location and the dive operator being considered. I am willing to go from Boca up to Riviera and anywhere in between.

I am also open to a wreck/reef or just reefs. I just want your opinon if you only had one day to dive in the area all year.

where in South Florida?

just a bit north of riviera is Jupiter Dive Center: I live in the area and have been out with them numerous times and have never been disappointed.

here are two other threads with suggestions:

If the tides are right, you might be able to get a beach dive in at the blue heron bridge as well. (e.g. morning two tank dive and afternoon dive at the blue heron bridge).

Kevin at U/W Explorers is superb (and yes, I voted for him!) and the reefs off Boynton/Delray are the best in FL - however, if I had ONE DAY - and I wanted the chance to see some big marine life - I'd go to Jupiter.

I'd request "Area 51" or "Captain Mikes" for the 1st dive - and "Tunnels" for the 2nd - you are almost assured of seeing sharks, turtles, and Goliath Groupers (Jewfish) on those dives plus some great reefs. Tunnels is one of the best, most unique sites in FL - of all the reefs, wrecks, ledges in FL, its my personal favorite.

I would agree with either Jupiter or Boynton. Boynton's ledges are more colorful, while Jupiter's will be larger and give you more likelihood of seeing larger sealife--sharks, rays, big turtles, etc.
I love both areas equally. However, if you are less experienced, Jupiter will be deeper, with ledges at 70-90 feet, and nitrox will greatly extend your bottom time there.

Thanks for the recommendations! I have decided to book Underwater Explorer in Boynton.

We are both AOW and Nitrox. Any chance I could stir the Captain toward a particular dive site? If so and depending on conditions, can anyone recommend specific dives in near Boynton?

Thanks again for the input!

There are no "bad" sites there; and Kevin will take you to wherever you want to go - frankly, I'd leave it up to him.

However (and especially since you took my previous recommendation to dive Jupiter so seriously :shakehead::D:rofl3:).....

I love the wreck of the "Castor" and the site close to Delray - but seriously, you really can't go wrong there and the sites are fairly close and close to shore - its not like in some areas they have to run 10 miles to get to a decent site.
