I recently sent my Ikelite 6812.3 Housing for my D300 in for maintenance. With a 100 plus dives on it in the year I've had it, it was recommended that I do so.

It came back looking practically like new, completely refurbished with many new parts and updated electronics. Only problem was that the camera and the strobes didn't seem to be talking to each other... (maybe the strobes were jealous they didn't get an all-expense paid trip back to the factory )

I initially thought it was a sync cord problem, but when I tried the spare sync cord that turned out not to work either.

I called Ikelite and was turned over to Steve Johnson in the Repair Department and the man who had actually worked on my housing when it was there. He walked me through step by step, while we trouble-shooted the problem.

First we checked the strobes, then the cords, and last the housing connection to the hotshoe. Everything tested out fine. The only thing left for the housing was a problem with the connection that couldn't be fixed over the phone and one other thing....

He suggested that I check and see if I had the latest firmware. This may be fairly obvious to some of you who have been using digital for a while, but was something that I hadn't thought of. A quick web search and I discovered that there HAD been a firmware update 5 months after I had bought the camera. I thanked Steve and told him I'd try that option and see if it helped.

After downloading the update here:

I followed the instructions here:
Upgrading the Firmware for the D300 and voila! Problem solved and my strobes are working perfectly now :)

The professionalism of everyone I talk to or communicate with at Ikelite has always been first class. They really do set the standard for customer service!

Thanks Steve! :D
