I'm a Fish!
My husband and I have the Preferred plan. My 14 and 16 year olds are certified now too. I am thinking of going with the standard plan for them. They are just diving locally and will not be out of the country this year nor will they be doing any planned dives below 130 feet for a while.

What do others do for their kids as far as insurance?

The difference in costs for the preferred vs. the master plan is minimal for the increased coverage with better "perks". Even if you don't plan on extended dives, why limit the coverage that you hopefully will never use?

My 2 cents.

I took my boys 15 and 19 out of the country to dive so I bought the preferred insurance.
But, if they were just going to dive in the U.S. (quarries, not ocean) I believe our regular insurance would cover most things. Have you checked?
