First, my deep condolences to the family and friends.

I regret to report there has been a death on the Vandenberg today. We have some preliminary information now and will update as appropriate.

http://seaduction.com/scuba-diving/vandenberg-death-rebreather/

  • male
  • rebreather
  • outside wreck

Ironically I/we were just starting a new series of articles about rebreathers because as I just purchased my first rebreather (Dräger Dolphin).

Thanks for the update. I am sincerely sorry to all family and others involved. Please keep us updated. RIP.

That is terrible news, and my thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family.

Sadly, I think we all knew it was just a matter of time... With a ship that large, and attracting that much attention.
Hopefully once the details come out, other divers can learn from this incident.

Please do remember, based on initial information the Vandenberg was merely the location and not a factor, so I would argue that the Vandenberg is still a safe place to dive.
