Assuming most know how to get to King Street in Brockville...the rest is very easy. On King Street if you are coming from the west you turn right or coming from the east your turn left onto Broad Street at the traffic lights across from the cenotaph. Proceed south and Buds will be on your left hand side just before you end up going through the guard rail and into the river. :D

I can finally confirm my attendance, as well as my wife and our 2 boys. I've PM'd TAZ the details. We do need a campsite though, so thought I'd post on here too. Is there a "chosen" campground? If so, name phone# would be appreciated.
I have the whole week following off work also and thought we might hang around the area Mon & Tue. Would welcome any suggestions for dives (shore) and we may be three divers, so a fourth would be welcome, especially if they know the area.

Every Monday night our Dive Club does a mystery boat dive somewhere in the Brockville area. If this is something you might wish to do, it is a 1 tank dive for $15.00.

Special Air Fill Rate

I have worked put a special air fill rate with our local Brockville Dive Shop for our July 26th event, if you pay in cash ( costs money to use the debit machine ). PM me for details as I don't want to turn this into a commercial announcement, it is more just my way of saying a little thank you to everyone who is coming and may need air. Sorry Nitrox is not available at this location, but is available at Abucs out Hwy #2 at Long Beach, will see if Helen will give us a special on Nitrox.

Brockville Scuba Park

This area at the end of Ferry Street averages between 25 to 40ft in depth. We have a small old wrecked barge just to the east almost in front of the end of the Rowing Club dock. Coins and clay pipes are found almost daily as the ferry terminal and coal docks use to be in this area. Tonnes of bottles and fish life also add to the experience.

Buds on the Bay

This is a diver friendly and family friendly eatery. They have a wide variety of menu items starting from $7.99 to $17.99 and a kids menu too.

If anyone needs any additional info please let me know.

Cheers, Taz!

Hmm. Does she have a suitable exposure suit? While Brockville is not (hopefully) as cold as Georgian Bay, it's not tropical. And 2 years is a long time. I'd speak to the LDS where you've just trained (and presumably spent some $$) and see if they could arrange a checkout dive or 2, possibly in a pool first. I know the LDS we frequent would be more than pleased to in similar circumstances. In fact if they didn't know you and/or you indicated a 2 year hiatus, they would probably insist on it before renting you gear, or signing you up for a charter. I assume she's had her regs, etc serviced?

Looking back through the threads, I only see directions to Buds. Are we all meeting at the Connie in the morning? Or joining up somewhere else first? I was looking through Kohls book on the weekend and didn't see drving directions.

I also saw a Brockville Wall dive mentioned. Can it be done from shore?

Getting to the Connestoga...
For a leisurely drive from Brockville, you can head east on Hwy 2 until you reach Cardinal, or being more efficient, take the 401 and get off the exit for county road 22. (In either case you pass Prescott ... but if you hit Cornwall you've gone waaaay too far) Timing is about 30-45 minutes depending on which route, and speed you’re going.

For the former (hwy 2) at the first major intersection turn right and head to the Canadian Legion. For the latter (401) just go straight and you should reach the same intersection.

At the Legion's parking lot, follow the road past the Legion out onto the dirt road on the causeway approximately 1 km. You will see the engine protruding from the water (left side in the St Lawrence River).

Just a heads up, although there is parking, it is limited, and the road/causeway very narrow (unless you're lucky if you drive in, you'll be backing all the way out).

From the Connestoga to the Rothsay....
Head back along hwy 2, go through Prescott (stopping for a bite to eat if you are hungry) A short distance (1.75 Km) west of Prescott, on the left side, there is a Historic Marker along the commemorating Justus Sherwood and a very and small parking area that can accommodate about a dozen cars. New this year is a port-a-potty and a "change" area. (if you pass the Dewar's Inn you've gone to far)

If these directions are not clear, or you want to do the "convoy" thing. Let Taz or I know.

Last week county road 22 (Shanly Road) had a detour on it due to consturction. Hopefully they will be done before the 26th. It is well signed and Cardinal is not that big.

Get on the 401, Eastbound and keep going. If you enter Quebec you've gone just a bit too far. :D We're travelling from Kitchener, probably about 2.5 to 3 hours along you're trip. I hope we can be away from here early to mid-afternoon Friday. I prefer setting up camp (tent) before dark. We could try and hook up as you pass if you'd like. PM me if you're interested.
We'll probably take the 407 (and pay the toll) as it gets you to the far side of TO quite a bit faster during rush hours.

I'm going to make it! I'm going to make it! I'm going to make it!

(For those of you who don't understand what that means, it means basically - I'm going to make it. I will indeed be attending.)

You can all run away in shock and horror now. I know you were probably reconciled to having an event without me, and it must have been horrible disappointing for everyone, but you can relax - Boogie711 is going to be in the house!

So is Seacur (John). We'll be driving from Kitchener/Stratford early on Friday morning - we hope to get in by Noon or 2pm and dive Friday afternoon and evening somewhere, all day Saturday, and maybe a quick dive on Sunday morning before heading home.

I understand this is terrible exciting news to everyone, so I'm going to ask that the dinner invites be kept to a minimum. Also, if you're planning on lauding me with gifts, it has to be small enough to fit into John's minivan, and we have a lot of gear, so remember - just because it's small doesn't mean I don't know it's expensive. Gold, Diamonds or Suunto Vytec computers will do quite nicely....

(And before the flame wars start, YES I'M KIDDING YOU MORONS! :D  :D  :D

(OK - just mostly kidding about the gifts. I am indeed coming.)

If you had actually took us where we were supposed to be going instead of swimming aimlessly into the middle of nowhere, maybe we could have finished the dive in a reasonable amount of time and I could have discreetly ungeared and slipped off to the bathrooms.

No - Mr. "Compass - who needs a stinking compass" decides to do the circuitous tour of Gullivers. As a result, Jeff ends up running across a parking lot screaming out "Someone undo this zipper - I have to pee!"

And John was testing his new drysuit valve. It was leaking on him earlier, so he got some verbal directions from the nice folks at Bare on how to repair the thing. Works like a charm now.

But yes - it was definitely very warm. And apparently, when you're floating in warm water... :embarr:

That's a lot of people to be diving the wrecks at one time - especially given the parking situation (which will be ugly, even with carpooling). Any merit in splitting ourselves up into two shifts, with one group doing the Conestoga first and the other the Rothesay, then switching?

Taz and I got together and have worked out a plan that we hope is suitable to all those that are coming.

We're a large group and as we really don't want to overwhelm any of the dive sites with an invasion (remember, we're not going to be the only ones at these sites) here's the plan:

Everyone who wants to dive as a group meet at the parking lot by Sea & Sky in Prescott. Then split the large group into three smaller ones. Each of the smaller group going to a different site and rotating through the three sites (Rothesay, Connestoga, Brockville water park).

The Brockville site will have Taz there all day greeting, meeting and diving with you.

The leading for the Rothesay and the Connie dives will be shared by Barb and I.

Diving details:
08:30 Meet at the parking lot at Sea & Sky we'll be there with balloons on the cars. Please park near the store, to leave dock area for the divers.
(Directions - Take the 401, exit # 716 for Prescott, go east towards the river. Go to the very end, turn right onto King Street, go 1 block, turn left at the clock tower, go to the end and turn left into the parking lot)

Everyone will get a "dive package" with info on the three sites, and directions to each. If you've forgotten stuff, Sea & Sky is open for business (and air and nitrox fills -- remember to bring your c-card ). Choose your starting site, and one of the leaders will head off with a group.

Dive the day away, then get ready for the 6pm - OFWF Official end of Day Dinner at ‘Buds on the Bay’

*Three* shifts looks like a great solution - less cars at any one site and any OW instructors doing checkout dives that weekend won't find themselves swamped by Freaks. Just hope all this extra organizational stuff you're doing doesn't rob you of too much diving time.

*Three* shifts looks like a great solution - less cars at any one site and any OW instructors doing checkout dives that weekend won't find themselves swamped by Freaks. Just hope all this extra organizational stuff you're doing doesn't rob you of too much diving time.

Umm - have those waivers been PMed yet? Still haven't seen mine. I'll make an extra copy for "George Bush"... :D

I'm trying to see if we can get Bill and Hillary to join in the fun!

I wonder, should we extend greetings to Paul Martin too?

No problem supporting both shops. I asked, because staying at Happy Green Acres (West of Brockville), driving to Prescott for air, it would have to be a lot cheaper. Otoh, if we dive forst out that way, then filling em up, before we head back to Brockville would make sense. And the chance to visit as many shops as possible is welcomed (would be even better if my wife wasn't present :D )

We're the waivers sent out? I didn't get one. Maybe I mis-spelled my email address (and of course, I didn't save a copy so can't check) Should I PM DivingGal again or Cat? Boogie, did you get one?

Does Paul dive? Just so long as Stockwell stays away - Seadoos (even foreign knockoff seadoos) and divers don't mix.

Well, "Bill Clinton" hasn't confirmed yet - needs a bit more time (yo, Bill!). "He" didn't mention bringing Hillary - I just assumed that the "carload" meant scuba stuff.
"George" will be here - barring unforseen last minute screwups with the secret service or Car Force 1. Thanks, Taz, for coming up with such a good secret squirrel name for "George" - the one I was going to use was too much of a hint :D

Got the waiver from cobaltbabe, thanks.

I just figured everyone knew that most politicians ( including Paul ) were really good at blowing bubbles! As for Stockwell, well he's to busy working on his sun tan to join us!

As you may or may not know, with PMs we can't attach anything, hence my request for e-mails. If you didn't receive one, don't worry, I'll be bringing extras, just in case.

Just in case you didn't get one...

Just in case you've forgotten it a home....

Taz is right, supporting the local shops is the name of the game.

As for us not missing out on diving.... hehehe that's the real reason for the "splitting" of the group, us miss diving? I think not :D

PS
I'll be adding in one more page to the "OFWF Fun Day Package" to list some other shore dives, and Dive Charter operators for you die hard divers.

Can a displaced Ontarian take part in the diving festivites or are they reserved for current Ontarians? I'll probably be visiting my folks in Johnstown on the weekend.

We can't be there till Friday eve. Anyone got diving planned for Sunday or Monday. We plan to hang around till Tuesday morning.
I don't know much about charter operators. Do they run through the week, or mostly weekends?

They do rent but this time of the year you might want to call first. There web site is http://www.diveseewayvision.com/page2.html if they are all out on rental then maybe Taz can line you up with one of the Brockville area shops.

We seriously appreciate the warning. Bad enuf I have to share a tent with Booger. Don't need no nekkid down east dudes hanging out there too. If you promise to remain fully clothed (in the dive fashion) you are welcome to join us for our dives. We'll do our best to uphold the safe diving standards of DIR, though Booger and I are only wannabees and not real DIR dudes.

A belated thank you, especially to Taz and DivingGal, we just got home from our vacation. The diving was great and was great to meet you all. We stayed over a bit and did Lock21 the the Connie for a second time. Lock21 was great, except someone had cut the ropes (I suspect the boater camped near the exit point, with coils of similar rope piled by his boat trailer) to and from shore.
We look forward to the next (bigger and better?) get together.
