I'll see ya there and you can just do cash.

PM me your email so I can forward on the reservation. From the email it appears I only need to send ya the paypal receipt.

Ooo Ooo! If anybody comes up short for buddies, I'm available! Whalers is just my favorite. Saw a big thornback ray there 2 weeks ago!

You would think with all the special effects talent in Hollywood that someone could market an inflatable dive buddy for Lobos. Give it an orange wetsuit and it can double as an SMB.

Hey now, you know the reservation went to someone near and dear to you (me).
I'm bringing a long-hoser with me, so everyone should be happy. Now I just have to read up on how to find middle reef, etc. once I get there. BAUE?

Bring someone else who has been to middle reef? It is easy to find. Last time I dove Lobos we could see the reef from the surface. We usually do Canary Point Wall for our first dive if we are doing two dives.

Middle Reef is smack in the middle of the mouth of Whaler's Cove. I imagine most of the surface kelp canopy is gone now so it'll be hard to find the sand channel from the surface, but if you just swim out to towards the middle of the opening of the cove and descend anywhere greater than 20ft depth, you'll probably land on middle reef :)

Thanks Peter and Kenn. I'm bringing fobturbo with me (Matt) it'll be my second time there, his first. I have to admit last time I was there with Kathy and Don I wasn't really paying attention to my compass, I was enjoying everything around me, like a kid on Christmas. I'm hoping for some flat water and great viz.

Brewski and Ernst, you guys will be at the MAG with Kathy right? This Saturday, be there or be squared....

Just make sure she doesn't get too close to your rigs, she will swap out your short hoses for longer hoses... :)

Michelle, thank you very much, I may take you up on that. From what I am gleaning it's hard to miss, but maybe you could point me to hole in the wall too? Seeing as I was looking at everything around it that last time, lol.
I'm so excited about Sunday, I guess Robin's going to be there too. I think I'll just go around and introduce myself to everyone there in dive gear, lol.
Hope to get to meet you too, Chuck.

Thanks for the reservations, Mike, sorry you couldn't make it but it was nice to see Brewski and his wife again. I also got to meet Chuck and Linda finally.
Had a couple good dives with fobturbo, don't think we actually found middle reef though we tried. Don't ask me how I couldn't, I think maybe the masses of krill threw off my compass? OK, maybe not. We did see dolphins while we were gearing up in the cove though, two of them, pretty neat. Someone in a red inflatable got pictures (I didn't get her name). Chuck was the one that spotted them though, thanks Chuck!
I'm hoping with the massive amounts of krill that were there that we'll start seeing some whales off the coast pretty soon.
I'm exhausted else I'd give a lengthier report, have to get that Christmas tree up before bed.

Paula when are you going to buy a drysuit and be warm? Michelle needs to keep working on you :eyebrow:

Wait until we start taking you deeper and your wetsuit compresses more as the water is getting colder :shocked2:

:) that was great, Lobos is such a magical place, that just sealed it. Even the park ranger was a bit peeved he didn't get to see. When he came by to chat I asked if he got to see the dolphins (he was talking about an osprey that's back) and he said, if I hear one more person ask me about the dolphins again!!! A bit frustrated he didn't catch a glimpse of them. Too bad no one was in the water at the time, though I doubt they could've seen them unless they were riding them.
Paula, you're welcome, not a problem at all.

Yeah, she's got a really good system to keep warm between dives. She always does both dives on the Sanc and hangs out on top when we're moving. I still think she'd be happier in a drysuit though. ;)

Kristina,

Have you dove with dolphins? In Aug this year I dove Lobos and as I was leaving the cove, I picked up a sudden movement to my left about 12 yards away...

I noticed a large dorsal fin break the water, large dorsal fin, and then it submerged again with a grace... My body registered many thoughts but kept saying, "it's a dolphin, it's just a dolphin,,, hello nice dolphin,,, bye nice dolphin".

We ended the dive without a chance of seeing it underwater, but I will tell you this, they don't look like anything the TV show Flipper made them be, cute and a nice grey color...

This dolphin had barnacles and lots of spots and looked like Flipper on steriods... I can laugh about it now.... :D

For some reason I didn't want to deal with probably needing another jump for the car. I also thought that not being able to bend over might make diving a little unsafe. I dunno, that's just me :D

You didn't miss anything. wasn't the day to dive Lobos.
I actually got a chance to walk the trail and see a part of the park I've never seen before.

Dead battery eh Mike? Did you leave something on? What year is your car? Occasionally a battery just fails.

We were the only dive team to show up last year, except I took the entire family and hiked most of Lobos. Awesome place to hike. I wonder how many divers have never even driven to the other side of the park?

The car is 6 months old, nothing was left on. At first it just seemed it didn't like the cold but this weekend was bad. I took it into the dealer this morning and they are done with it. Gonna pick it up tomorrow and see what they say.

Peter_C

If nothing was left on the battery failed internally. Hopefully they replaced the battery. If they didn't replace the battery ask for the battery test print out. If they can not supply one, ask for a quick test. It will take less than 5 minutes from start to finish.
