I will be headed down to Miami for the Orange Bowl (GO HAWKEYES!!!) I was thinking of sneaking in a dive or two on the 3rd or 4th, do most of the dive ops keep running throughout the winter? If so, what are the water temps?

Tech Fan? Get ready for an onslot of black and gold to hit your city - we need to get away from the snow (although I live in Carolina). 30 degrees? that is about right for diving in December for us. Thanks for the info- my 3mm plus H/V should be about right then. Many ops still run but don't accept Hawkeyes fans...
Water temp was 74 last week at riviera beach but I heard the hawkeyes fans experienced a thermocline of 30 degrees
I am going to be staying at the Sheriton near the Fort Lauderdale airportOffshore temps are 77-79 right now. The only place it's 74 degrees is on the shore dives in shallow water.
As J31 pointed out, RJ Diving on South Beach in Miami runs a great operation. Assuming you'll have a rental car, diving in Fort Lauderdale, Pompano, Key Largo, and Boynton Beach are all options an hour or less drive from South Beach.
Do you know where you'll be staying yet?

I like to dive anywhere it is wet - have all kinds of wrecks up here in NC - so I am good with whatever - although I will be here the 3rd-5th - diving on the fourth - what is the chance of the ops running on a Monday in January? Here it is not likely - I am assuming it is most likely with a small boat/six pack?So you're 90 minutes from Key Largo, 40 minutes from South (Miami) Beach, 10 - 15minutes from the Fort Lauderdale boats, 25 minutes from the Pompano boats, and 45 minutes from the Boynton Beach boats.
Now we've got that out of the way....
What kind of diving do you like?? Reefs or wrecks or both?? The de facto standard here is a wreck and a reef but there are also reef/reef and wreck/wreck trips.
thanks for the info - I will be flying down on sunday - not sure what time yet - dive on monday, and gametime on tuesday -fly home on wed amMy very favorite dive op near your motel is Sea Experience II. I've been diving with Capt. Bill for nearly three decades, and SEII (the boat, that is) is only about a year old and she is room, clean, and fast with her twin four stroke outboards. He goes out every day and will go out if he has two divers. Nobody knows the local reefs better than he does. You are also close to American Dream II and Pro Diver II, also good operators.
I'm off on Fridays and Sundays so if you choose SEII, I'll join you if I don't have other plans that day.
