It was reported that he was spearfishing.

Elliott Key diver bitten by shark expected to live - South Florida - MiamiHerald.com
A Miami-Dade man bitten by a bull shark Wednesday morning is expected to undergo surgery to repair his lacerated arm.

The attack occurred while the man was spearfishing near Elliott Key and snagged a barracuda. A nearby bull shark lunged for the fish and ended up biting the man.

The injury is not life-threatening, said Bethany Rundell, a South Miami Hospital spokeswoman.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue met the victim, who was rushed to the Matheson Hammock Marina about 10:40 a.m., said fire spokeswoman Cristina Armand.

That, I am fairly certain, sucks.

I know all the details are not in yet, and there will undoubtedly be a lot of speculation. However, if it happend the way it is reported, Wouldn't it be a foolish move to shoot a barracuda in the presence of a bull shark?

Why shoot a barracuda, let alone shoot a barracuda with a bull shark around?

Right? You can't eat barracuda, can you?

No one said they were rocket scientists.

They were shooting barracuda to use as chum to fish with.

They showed the guy's friend on the local news. They were two hispanic guys spearfishing. The bitee was holding the shot 'cuda through it's gills, alongside his arm when....chomp! The local (bloodmonger) news station showed the guys blood all over the boat's motor. It took them 24 minutes to get back to shore according to the news report.

He almost became the newest winner of the Darwin Award. What an idjit.

The cold has most swimmers avoiding Miami's beaches and now hungry sharks may keep anglers away too after a fisherman was bitten by one in Coral Gables this morning.

Miami-Dade police said the incident happened shortly before 11 a.m. at the Matheson Hammock Marina at 9610 Old Cutler Road. Witnesses said the shark flew out of the water and attacked theman, who was spear fishing at the time.

Fire Rescue workers responded to the scene and found the unidentified man who had been bitten on the arm. He was quickly transported to South Miami Hospital.

The victim's condition is unknown at this time.
