I'm pretty sure this one would have to be checked but you can compare the size specifications against your airline choice's rules.

It might be just borderline to carry down to the gate and if told it won't fit in whatever plane you are flying they would "gate check" it.

The next case size 1650 is deeper and has wheels and surely would need to be checked in.
