I was looking to go to the Outer Banks for vacation and diving. Has anyone ever used Outer Banks Diving in Hatteras for dive trips? If so, what was your experience like with the dive operation and the dives you did.

I've dove with them a few times in the past.

If you plan on diving down there, you don't have much of a choice as far as dive boats or shops. Its a long way away from everything.

We've hit the Proteus, the Dixie Arrow and the Manuela in the past. Nice wrecks, nice vis and warm water.

I dive with them quite often. I've not had a bad experience cause by the operation yet, of course the weather hasn't always cooperated. Johnny will can the dive if the weather is going to be bad for the divers and actually consult them if it is an iffy situation before he makes his decision.

You should be advanced in experience because you can run into some difficult conditions at times. Their website is Outer Banks diving (http://www.outerbanksdiving.com) . Aside from their nitrox being a bit steep I can't say enough good about them.

Last time I was down there, I discovered that there are very few dive operations

Outer Banks diving is a solid operation. The Proteus and the Dixie Arrow seem to be the two most popular wrecks from my experience.

Dove with them last summer and fall. Amazing sharks and fish; dove in blue water 4 times and green-clear once (on Diamond Shoals at 30 feet). Both had tropical corals and fish along with temperate water fish. (Water temp was never lower than 81 at depth in Aug and Sept) Their boat is 60' or so and all the crew are certified as captains/divemasters. Diving there is an all-day affair, as some of the wrecks take 1 1/2 hours to get to. YOu can snorkel or fish in the surface interval. Take food and you can cook it on their grill. I found they do not "baby" you like in Cayman, but they seem solid and safe. And the diving is spectacular. I like them so much, I paid for their pre-season special of 10 dives for this year.
