I was thinking of ideas for Scuba tourism in Nova Scotia, this is more of a question for people form Nova Scotia. What about creating a dive park? It could be a place serviced by one of the LDS's in the area. It would be a great place for training new divers, and further education. There could be a pool on site for off-season work and pool training for OW students, with a class room on site. You could also put attraction sin the water for diver's too see. One of the reason's I'm saying this, is yes there is a lot of great dive sites in Nova Scotia, but what about the non-techies who wil never see sites such as the Russian. Also you can't promise animal sighting's, I went on a dive where I told there was a wolf eel, never saw it. I trained my AOW in a area called Seal Rock off Lunenburg, no seal sightings:depressed: I'm thinking about forming a business plan, but there are things I have too research first, such as would Environment Canada allow such a place? I would like some honest opinions on such a place...

Sounds like a great idea to me. Anything to get more Nova Scotians involved in diving. I'm not sure about the legal issues but I wish you all the luck in the world.
For purely selfish reasons may I suggest St Margaret's Bay as your location of choice?

Heard the diving was great in NS (and saw convincing photos as well), however I doubt I would drive that far for a dive park. I dive to see underwater species. While I do plan dives for the sole purpose of refreshing/improving skills, I do it locally.

That said, training grounds (waters?) are great for local divers. I don't know how you could make a profit out of this venture. Then again : I don't know how to make a profit :p

I just moved to Halifax in 2004 from Egypt and I only discovered diving here two summers ago. Last summer I spent every weekend diving and I have to say its isn't the Red Sea, but is is definitely decent. I did almost 40 dives here last summer.

Yes sea life is not too common, but it depends on the dive site. The wrecks are definitely the big attraction here. I have been playing with the idea all of last summer to start a liveaboard business specialised in wreck diving. There is none around. This might be something to think about which I think is a better idea than a dive park.
