I did a search and looked through everything that turned up with Smart and UWatec in the titles but didn't find what I was looking for.

What I want to know is...will the UWatec Smart Z work as a depth gauge if you're just free-diving? I've looked at the operators manual on the website but it doesn't really say yes or no. I'm just wondering if it has to be paired up with a tank transmitter or if I could also use it for free diving to figure out my depth. Anyone know?

Thanks in advance!

Yes it does have a gauge mode. The problem is it only "stores data" every couple of seconds which is common for many computers. It will also keep starting and stopping dives logged if you spend a few minutes on the surface.
