Anyone ever dive Malta? didn't do a search so could be another thread but just wanted to know if anyone has. I found that leaving out of London, 7 nights, 10 dives at a few dive shops there is about $1,000 total. About $800 leaving out of Rome, Italy. Looks like good diving. Any thoughts? Comments, experiances?

cheers,
Rob

I dove with Dive Deep Blue in Bugibba back in 2006 and they were great. We dove all around the island and even went to Gozo and Comino for some dives. The visibility and underwater topography was outstanding.

Cool! I might have to go there sometime soon. Thanks,

Rob

Never been, but one of the instructors at my LDS used to work there. His view was that the marine life wasn't nearly as bountiful (relative to the Caribbean) but they had loads of really nice wrecks to dive.

I have been to Cyprus which I assume it similar, and I enjoyed my diving there a great deal (again, nice wrecks).

Well I'll tell you I think that the sea life in the Mediteranean has died out allot. I have been spear fishing off the west coast of central Italy for over 20 years and just with that I've seen a fall with sea life. Less Octopus, less groupers, lobsters, Scorpian fish, etc. Polution, over fishing, etc. It's a shame. Might be just my experiences but just seems like that to me.

Went to Malta in October 2007 dived with Maltaqua a very professional operation http://http://www.maltaqua.com/catalog/ They have their own apartments and will organize transfers. We went to the Red Sea last year and some of the guys were disappointed in comparison with Malta

Interesting, what exactly were they disappointed about with the Red Sea? I'm thinking of going to Dahab this June.

any experience with SubwayScuba?

I've been diving twice in Malta (20 dives) and 3 times in Egypt (43 dives).
I like Malta, and it can be very cheap.
But sealife is not very present, compared to red sea of course, but also to the french mediterranean coast ( over 200 dives) or Corsica (40 dives). Some of the wrecks are nices, and there are a lot of nices cavern/swim-trough.
