We had to cancel our Key Largo plans for this summer, and already have other locations booked for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We are now considering late March early April of next year for a visit to Key Largo. It sounds like the weather this spring hasn't been the best, but in general, is this a good time of year to explore the area? This will just be a diving trip for us (only about ten days) so we don't care too much about above water activities. In a "normal year" can we expect to be able to get out on the dive boats every day this time of the year? Are conditions most often better with the AM boats than the afternoon boats? Note: We are SoCal beach divers, so telling us that the water temps will "only" be in the low 70's with 80 ft vis will only encourage us. ;-)

Thanks

historically, march and april are typically breezy and dry in the keys. your best bet are the months, may thru july(aug and sept, as well, except for increased chances of tropical systems). here's the average wind speeds for molasses reef, offshore key largo,,,,,

Thanks Reefman, it looks like we may be better off doing HI in March / April and save FL for the summer.

June, July, and August are pretty safe for wind and waves.
Around 1/2 way through August you need to start watching for the Hurricanes and Tropical Storms.
My favorite times down there are early June and early October.
Many families are still in school, or have just gone back, and there are a few less people there.
Nothing against young families...I have one.

Is overdue for a Keys trip...
