Thanks for the video! Did you warn him to keep off the coral?

Great video and it was refreshing that you and your group kept your distance and just watched the dolphin "do his thing".

We've had pods come up along side the boat on the surface, but never any u/w during a dive and never a solo dolphin. Very cool. Love the back scratching on the coral. What site where you at?

I think it was Punta Tunich but I've already forgotten. I'm sure someone that was on the boat might remember and can chime in and remind me.
It was really amazing. The weather yesterday was horrible. Heavy rain, cold, nasty surface conditions but this dolphin made it all worth it!

That is pretty cool. A few years ago I was diving with my son off North Carolina and a pod came to check out the boat while we were moored to a wreck. One dolphin actually dove down with us for a minute or two to the wreck itself then the pod left. After the first dive we stayed moored to the wreck during the surface interval. My son felt a bit sea sick so he jumped in to the water with his mask and fins and held onto the tag line. The pod (if it was the same one) came back and one dolphin circled my son a dozen or so times going under the tag line and once going over it. The crew said they had never seen that behavior. I wish I had a camera, it is one of our top dive experiences.

"Pretty cool" doesn't begin to describe it...That's a very rare & special sight for Coz divers, oh lucky Steve! Maybe you should carry a bandanna in your BC so you'll have something for the next one to play with.

I don't think it was scratching on coral...
I think it was exfoliating on loofah sponges.:D
We've tried to grab a snorkel and swim with them before, when we see them along side the boat. Never had any luck though. Amazing the thing didn't swim off. Very cool. That's a unforgettable experience/dive. Thank You for sharing.

Oh! This is absolutely the most beautiful sight! You and your dive group were truly blessed with a once in a lifetime opportunity to see such a carefree "dance" with the reef!!!! WOW! That minute and 9 seconds ended way fast. Hearing your breathing while watching this magnificent creature added to the peacefulness of the whole event. Bet you filled out that log book entry real fast! What a memory you were given. Continued safe diving in the future to you. That will be a very difficult dive to top. Thank you so much for sharing this moment with us here. Simply beautiful.......
What op were you diving with?

Watching a dolphin scratch its back on what very well does look like my favorite Cozumel reef (Tunich). That must've been all too surreal. You are one lucky man, Scubasteve!

Great video!! Always the best when your in the right spot.
Usually when you see dolphins on the west side the next day or so later there will be bad weather. Did that happen to you?
During my visit in Feb this year we where diving the north reefs and we where just in front of Aldoras' resort when we saw a large pod. We jumped in to snorkel with them, that was wild. They usually just keep going south but this pod stayed with us for quite a while. I was free diving to about 30fsw and the one dolphin was mimicking my turning and twisting, to neat.
By the way it looks like you guys where in the current, where you? great shot again.kev

I've been corrected, the dive site was Yucab.
And yes Firstdive2005 the weather was horrible that day and the day before. Here is a very short 7 second video of the weather just before the dives that day.
