Hello,
I am no able to download my dives from my VT3 into Oceanlog 2.2.4 - 2.2.7 - when I attempt to download my dives into Oceanlog (on two different computers - one Windows XP and one Windows 7) upon slecting OK after disconnecting the PDC from the USB adapter when prompted I recieve a Run-time error '3421' Data Type Conversion Error
When I acknowledge the error (which must be done to continue) the Oceanlog program closes. It never gets to the point where it is possible to select which dives to download.
I also own a Atom 2.0 and have no issues downloading my dives onto the same computers that the VT3 will not work with. Please advise if there is anything I should try. I've un-installed and re-installed the USB drivers and Oceanlog software but have not been able to download dives from the VT3 since 3/24/2010 - is it possible the latest version 2.2.7 is the cause somehow? I've tried a fresh install of 2.2.4 and 2.2.6 with the same result.
Thanks for any assistance,
Sean

Also when I click on Configuration, Dive Computer I get a "Invalid Use of Null" error and the program aborts and closes right away. The program has always been flaky in my opinion, this is just the latest.
version 2.2.7 build 3.03.10

I Had this problem in the past while trying to download the GEO. Your computer will not allow you to download if the battery falls below a certain voltage. The low battery icon does not have to be present in order for this to happen. Try changing the battery, it worked for me.

I actually just did change the battery two weeks ago. Error still occuring though. And now I have managed to flood the battery compartment... for nothing.

What brand battery did you use? Some batteries don't supply enough pulse needed for these computers. I believe Oceanic recommends Sony.

I did install a Sony. Perhaps it is just a dud...?

After a reboot of your computer plug your download adapter cable into a different port on your computer.

So I've tried different USB ports, rebooting first, different computers and it doesn't fix the problem. There must be something, maybe a incompatibility with Office 2007?I'll have to monkey around with it some more. Thanks for the suggestions and if anyone comes across this please advise.
Thanks,
Sean

I'm on office 2007 enterprize edition and it is working properly.
Have you tried going into the windows control panel programs and features(windows 7) add or remove programs(windows XP) and click on highlight the Oceanlog software and click on "repair". also reinstall the download adapter driver. This is separate software available on the Oceanic website. Use care to download and install the proper driver for your operating system version 32 or 64 bit.

The Oceanlog and USB driver work fine with my Atom 2.0 - it's the VT3 which I think logs more accurate info (depth and temp. anyway) which I can't get my dives off of. Everything looks like it's working when I go to download the dives, it progresses through the download process. I get as far as the "unclip your PDC and hit enter" portion of the process. When I hit enter to acknowledge the unclipping of my VT3 from the download cable - I get that run time error. Upon acknowledging the run time error Oceanlog just closes :-(
This happens on two different computers that I've tried to download my dives with. Both computers are able to download the dives off of the Atom 2.0 though - I've tried everything suggested so far. I'm beggining to think I will just send it back to Oceanic and see if they will replace it. Maybe the data cable? The error itself indicates that there was a unexected character in a feild were a particular type of character should be (numbers where it was expecting letters or vice - versa)

I'm thinking data cable, too.
Anyone around you know from whom you could borrow a known working cable?

I'll figure something out and post back my results.

So, I installed Oceanlog onto a third computer tonight and still get that Run time error 3421... so I am thinking it is likely the datacable. What a rip for a USB cable - $89.00 ? Seriously Oceanic? If a new cable doesn't fix the issue hopefully I can return it....sheesh!

So I bought the new data cable. While I don't get the error anymore, now the Oceanlog program just closes after I "okay" the unclip PDC dialoge button..... WTF?

Wow, so I have replaced the data cable and when attempting to download dives onto a Windows 7 computer Oceanlog just closes after pressing OKAY to unclip PDC dialogue. When attempting to download dives to a Windows XP computer I am still getting the freaking Runtime error 3421. Anyone got any suggestions on what to try next?

Notrab try this backup you DLG file and your backup file. Then find this file FTDIUNIN.exe and run it. That file will uninstall the oceanic USB drivers. Then uninstall oceanlog and delete the oceanlog folder. Once that done reinstall both the USB drivers and Oceanlog the try and download the VT3.

NCadiver - thanks for the reply. I tried the whole uninstall reinstall of Oceanlog / deleting the folder and uninstalling the USB drivers but am still getting that damn Runtime Error. I'm thinking I may need to clear the memory somehow on the VT3. There must be some data stored that is causing Oceanlog issues.
Anyone know how to clear the VT3? I'm thinking about setting the sampling rate to 2 seconds and see if it will overwrite the potential bad data. ANY ideas are welcome!

On the Geo I was told to short the battery contacts together without the battery. This will reset the computer.

Over writting the data is the only way to clear the data. You may want to try and download one dive at time to see if you can get most of them down.
And their are two other thing you can try one is the same thing I told you earlier plus delete the DAO360.dll file and see if that works or do one more dive and see if that reindex the dive information.

@ NCadiver - I don't even get to the point where I am able to select a dive to download. You wouldn't know where the data gets downloaded to before you select each dive to download would you? There must be some TEMP space the data goes to first before it gets saved into the log...
I did change my sampling to 2 seconds so hopefully I overwrite the memory soon and will be back in bussiness. Too bad I spent $90.00 on another data cable :-( Any one want to buy a VT3 USB data cable?

Yes I do. He the path C:\Program Files\OCEANIC\Oceanlog 2.x\Data but I have not be able to decode it yet.
At 2 sec it will take about 4 to 5 hour of dive time to overrite the memory.

I'll just throw my computer in the deep end of the pool tonight. It activates relatively shallow... We will see in the morning.

Somehow I miss last year’s post, what was the error on the computer log that causes the runtime error? If you could post the profile that would be great.

Not sure what the error was on the computer log that caused the run time errors. I'm just happy that it's all working now.
