I have searched this and most of the hits are for new members from Arizona.

I will be in Arizona for 10 days in December and was wondering about in state dive locations?

If you're in the northern part of the state, check out Lake Powell, went there last Dec, it's almost like diving the Grand Canyon underwater.

There are some other spots (resevoirs) around Phoenix I believe.

Also, in the northwestern part of the state, if you're there, check out the Colorado River, here's some links.

. . . what are the best or most interesting dive sites close to Tempe? It would be easier to justify a visit to my sister if I could get wet at a cool location.

Any good recommendations out there?

Try the second link above in my post, has some links to Arizona Dive shops that should be able to help you out, I myself have never dove in the southern portions of the state.

Yes Arizona does have water to go with it's beach. Lake dives are the norm but road trips to Mexico and California get you vizability.

i don't know if i would reccommend any lake powell diving to anybody! we were there last summer for a houseboat trip and took a few tanks up to dive. here's a long list of everything we saw (besides each other)

EXACTLY one stick
and one small catfish

viz was about 5 feet max and the water was COLD! i wore my 7mil.

but, i guess like most desert divers around here, we just HAD to get wet. all this complaining aside, we still had a blast. but i'd hate for some poor schmuck from outta state to head all the way up to page expecting a super diving experience!

just for fun i'll incude a link to our pics!

enjoy!

A group of us regularly dive Lake Pleasant which at the north west end of Phoenix. Viz can be anywhere from 20ft in the winter to zero in late summer....The colder the water, the better the viz. There's not alot to see but isnt too bad either and makes a great place to practice skills and low viz training.
There is alot of dive reports on this forum.

In Arizona new students usally dive in the local lakes, but water is water, when the student gets the certification any and all salt water destinations are pretty much the norm. Those who do continue to dive in the local lakes do so for fun and at the risk of very very low viz...

By December the water temps in the local dive lakes are well below the 60dF point.

Greetings,
I will B flying into Salt Lake City to do a 'road trip'.
Interested in diving in Bear Lake, Idaho & some sites in Utah. Any tips?
Any interesting sites, advice welcome.
Yes I will bring my wetsuit. My primary interest is UW photography, but low viz does not deter me - used to brail diving & attendant macrophotography.
