Open dive log data format specification?

(Not sure what the best forum would be for this question... so picked
this one.)

I have been trying to find information about the data formats used by
dive log software. I have found reference to something called DL7
that I gather is something used by DAN, but I can't find a
specification for it. Is there any effort to create a common, open
format? -- something in plain text or xml or some such? I am quite
surprised that my Googling has turned up so little. It seems like
something someone would have done by now.

There are 2 open XML based exchange formats, UDCF and UDDF. Sometimes the DAN DL7 text format is also used as exchange format, but normally it is only for sending dive data to DAN for the PDE program. The documentation is only available as Word document.
