Hey there experienced divers,

By luck I arrived on this site and I've read some interesting info on diving the Carribean.

I've read some good tips about Utilla and Roatan.
Now I'm planning a divingtrip for the end of september, start of oktober. I was thinking of going to Utilla.
Is this a good period to go there?

Another ,basic, question that's on my mind is how do I get there from Belgium? I've been searching some belgian sites but no one seems to fly to Honduras.
Can anyone help me?

Thank's for the advice.

I don't have all your answers but keep this in mind that Sept is (I am pretty sure) the most active of the months for hurricanes in the Carib. Watch that weather coming off the coast of Africa very closely because thats where a good percentage of them originate from.

from much of Europe, you will need to make a connection, often in Miami. You have several options for flying from Brussels to Miami. You can get a non-stop flight to Miami if you depart from Amsterdam or Paris.

Flights to the Bay Islands often make connections on the mainland of Honduras. Connect through San Pedro Sula or La Ceiba.

At that time of the year I would not go to most of the Caribbean, but rather to somewhere like Bonaire. We have gone to Bonaire the last three years over Labor Day week when at least once major hurricanes were devestating the US Virgin Islands area as well as the Yucatan peninsula. The ABC's (Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao) are below the hurricane path. The diving in Bonaire is like an aquarium. This year we're going to Curacao for a change.
There is also great service from Amsterdam to Bonaire. If I'm not mistaken it's non-stop.

I'm some what new to Roatan, been there May of the last two years and plan on making it an every year trip. All I can offer is that it is so much better to fly directly to Roatan instead of going to the Honduras mainland. We fly direct from Houston on TACA airlines (once called Take A Chance Airlines! but we have had great luck - as good as any airlines!) Not sure about the weather could run into storms which can ruin a Carribean trip this that time of year.

Do not fly through Miami if you can avoid it. It is by far the worst mainland airport I have ever experienced.

Tim Ingersoll once bubbled...

I'll second that. Unfortunately, it is getting harder and harder to avoid Miami when flying into the Caribbean these days.

Aside from Miami, TACA has flights from New Orleans into Roatan, too. The flights between Roatan and Miami are direct, non-stop flights on Sundays. I'm not sure about the New Orleans flight... you'll have to look on that one. I HIGHLY recommend a direct flight... otherwise you get caught up in the cattle hearding they do on their milk runs the rest of the week and can get stranded at a random airport for hours if you're unlucky. You can check HTTP://WWW.TACA.COM for their flight schedules.
