Looking for good ideas for a dolly for rolling my doubles around at one of my favorite local dive sites.

There is a decent tote up to the fill station, so I would like something that can be made pretty compact, etc that I can use to wheel them up for air fills.

It would need to have descent wheels to handle a little rought terrain.

Any ideas?

I have the same problem... still looking for a dolly to carry my tanks. She should be about 5' 6" and 115 pounds with long dark hair and a passion for diving and marine biology. Sorry, couldn't resist.

I walk quite a distance from my home high on a hill to my dive site at Casino Point on Catalina. I use a Home Base hand cart that has large tubeless balloon tires that make it "easy" to cart my stuff (even on the uphill stretch to home). Since their inflatable, I carry a tire inflator attachment to remedy the occasional flat.

Works well for me... much better than the flimsy things I see some divers using to carry their tanks.

I draw the line at >1/4 mile, unimproved trails or climbs down over rock breakwaters...

...but most of the time I find it easier to just wear them.

How about a little red wagon (http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=6970&langId=-1&catalogId=4006970&PHOTOS=on&TEST=Y&productId=29473&categoryId=0).
It doubles a psudo wheel barrow and the kids love it.
It is not too compact though.

Hi all

ggo to your local office supply store, staples office depot etc. ask them where the two wheel collapsable carts are that people use for pulling around office file boxes. They fold up for easy transportation and can safely hold a set of double tanks as most carts are rated for about 150 pounds. get a good one if you are going to be dragging your tanks over trails. good luck i have been using mine for over three years and only paid 35 dollars for it.

...has a nice dolly/cart for around $20. Converts from a 2 wheel dolly to a 4 wheel cart.

For around $100 or so, you can get a "Ruxxac Fold Flat Extra Long Model" cart that folds flat so you can stow out of the way on a boat or tuck it back inside your car. This model can hold 275 pounds - great when you have to hump a bunch of tanks on a long dock or pier; priceless at the end of the day when you're exhausted and the last thing you want to do is lug one more tank one more foot. Websearch on google found one for $85 here: http://www.lentinicommunications.com/items/item127.htm

Have you seen those foldable 3-wheel baby buggies? I've got one for my kid and as soon as he outgrows it I'm going to try making a frame for carrying doubles. The wheels are big enough to roll over most obstacles and it's light and foldable for easy storage. The problem might be the weight. They're not really made for carrying 30-odd kg so you may need to do something to reinforce it for strength. You could probably pick one up 2nd had cheap.

Some guy up on ebay is selling plans for a single tank dolly made from PVC pipe.
It could be adapted to fit a set of doubles.

Extreme out.

I did a search but I couldn't find what you're referring to on Harbor Freight, do you have a link or something?

Just get a dive buddy that you take out to dinner after everydive and you always pay.

Then make them feel guilty about you always paying and tell them you don't really mind but if it makes them feel better they could lug your tanks over for a fill.

It has worked for me for about 2 yrs with the same buddy. :D

It was listed under 'Hand Truck'.

Hope that helps.

Don't know if anyone still looks at this thread but Lowe's Hardware has a two-way convertible hand truck in stock. It has pnuematic tires and a six hundred pound capacity. I used to have a smaller hand truck (like the Harbor Freight model), but I over loaded it and busted the rear castors and bent the frame. The Lowe's model does cost $68.00 but the tires and castors alone are worth $30 to $40.
